I am considering taking PS 342 [ Politics of China/ Japan] with him,


Any thoughts and advices on the class or the professor in general ?

I had him five years ago. He can get on to rambling (who doesn't) but you'll get educated.

Tony Moyer was teaching the Japan half of the class and he was dynamite.

The books we had at the time were a little dry. I'd read the CIA world factbook articles on Japan, China and the Koreas before you start those sections for some context. The readings would get really long (or they'd pile up) and you'd forget what you were learning about. With today's technology you could add regional news of the area to your feed aggregator. Back in my day we had to visit the Economist website on unstable, non-ubiquitous wireless networks !

I thought it was extremely boring. He goes off on tangents all the time. It's fairly easy to do well in the class, though.
