I interviewed with some folks at Stanford on Tuesday for a leadership position on a collaborative group with UC Berkeley. The group aims to get in on some of the DOE stimulus funds that are being pushed out for developing "smart grid" technologies (kinda what I'm doing now).I received a call this afternoon saying that I'm one of the top 3 candidates and will know their final decision by next week.I'm actually kinda excited

I'm heading out there tomorrow for a follow-up interview on Monday. I've got to put together another presentation and a proposal on what direction I'd take the program.I'm pulling my hair out over here.

I think the formality of prof would overide the casual joe, I think it'd simply be Professor Numbers[Edited on August 8, 2009 at 11:09 PM. Reason : .]
8/8/2009 11:06:58 PM

Professor Joe 'One Arm Bandit' Numbers.

Well I didn't get the job, it went to some guy from MIT. One of the reasons given was that I don't have enough publications, something I've been avoiding by working for a non-academic institution I was actually looking forward to a change... Oh well
8/10/2009 8:38:46 PM
one door closes another opens right?
8/10/2009 8:40:23 PM

8/10/2009 9:17:22 PM
Fuck MIT
8/10/2009 9:22:19 PM
I agree. fucking MIT.i once had a principal engineer at a job who was an MIT alum. smart as fucking hell, but about the most socially-stunted, obnoxious, and insufferably pedantic person ive ever worked with.
8/11/2009 8:27:45 PM
only MIT undergrads are socially stunted...graduate school versions of MIT people are MUCH more likely to be normal...ah, I skipped the last few posts[Edited on August 11, 2009 at 9:25 PM. Reason : sorry dude, the real world paychecks kick SERIOUS ass]
8/11/2009 9:20:11 PM
I worked with an MIT guy at my last job. The guy wasn't dumb by any stretch but I certainly wasn't ever blown away by any of his brilliance.
8/11/2009 9:20:58 PM
must mean there's a better opportunity out there for ya. best of luck, Dr. Joe#s.
