is getting the computer to start up literally your only option in this?

what i'm trying to say is, why dont you just take the harddrive out and connect it to a cheap 10 dollar plug and play device at tiger direct, and move the files to another harddrive.

thats the easy, 'save some time' way. Time=$.

1) Can you type out the EXACT error message you are seeing when you try to turn on you computer?
2) Can you provide more specifics on your machine? Manufacturer? Model? XP Home or XP Pro?
3) Are you willing to drop it off to have fixed, are you willing to drop off and wait, or, do you want somebody to come and fix for you?

Those willing are going to charge $20-$25/hr. This shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours, but an FYI.
