I am wanting a good trails/road bike. Does this exist? If so, would you be oh so kind to school me on a great selection.
8/10/2009 11:17:35 PM
yeah go to the store
8/10/2009 11:18:37 PM
How much do you want to spend, how often will you ride it?
8/10/2009 11:19:14 PM
whatever Lance Armstrong uses
8/10/2009 11:19:54 PM
how much are you willing to spend? how tall are you. how hardcore of trails[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 11:24 PM. Reason : my bad]

I am a beginner and I am not going to be hardcore not unless I really like it so a badass bike is not in the works. I don't want to spend more than 150 on a bike right now. Maybe later. I am going to try to use it at least 4 times a week working the mileage up. I will be on road at first and later I will work my way up to trails.
8/10/2009 11:25:26 PM
well then you are def gonna want to buy used. you can get a decent Trek for about that much with good forks and rapid fire shifting.
8/10/2009 11:30:03 PM
well if you're trying to work your way up to trails (which isn't something you should work towards imo), it's pretty clear that you shouldn't get a road bike..
8/10/2009 11:30:06 PM
ok...I prob will be doing more road and greenway type biking. There is this sweet White Water Center here and it has these awesome trails that I would love to try one day so I guess that is why I want to work my way up. Again, I am a n00b, I know nothing about this and have no claims either.]
8/10/2009 11:44:29 PM
you could probably just start with a working and safe used bike off of craigslist/classifieds, then work up to wanting a good road bike
8/10/2009 11:46:34 PM
i bet you could find a decent one on tww if you made a thread
8/10/2009 11:49:33 PM
I'd go for a mountain bike imo
8/10/2009 11:51:20 PM
you may want to look into hybrid bikesthey're more lightweight than a mountain bike but have thicker tires and a bigger seat than a road bikedef buy used if your budget is $150, you wont get anything new but cheap wal mart crap for that. craigslist is a good spot, also pawn shops and perhaps second hand stores.i say pawn shops because on my way home from work i saw a few out in front of one among other items
8/10/2009 11:53:55 PM
try these in this order:tww, craigslist, pawn shop, second hand store[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 11:57 PM. Reason : .]
8/10/2009 11:56:49 PM
also if you want to get into it, i know some people have bought new bikes on ebay for pretty cheap and just had the local bike shop assemble them for a fee, i've heard $50also you seem petite, so try for a womens bike, they tend to fit smaller proportions better
8/11/2009 12:02:20 AM
i have a trek women's hybridit is pretty good and seems like what you would needif you could find one like i have used i bet it would be in your pricerange because mine is like...really old. like 12 years old at least.
8/11/2009 12:04:07 AM
on Saturday I can show ya the shop on 15th
8/12/2009 10:32:25 PM
I might take you up on that. I have not been able to really find a decent bike. There was one that I asked wolfy and kat about but the person selling the bike seemed weird so I did not follow up afterwards.]

bad boy ultra

it's easier to ride a mountain bike on pavement than it is to ride a road bike on dirt.for an intro-level bike, you can get away with less than $200, especially if you go used.if you really get into it, you can easily drop upwards of $1000 and not even have a whole bike. I've put $1300 or so into my baby and i'm still looking for the perfect fork.your best bet might be to spend $dirt on a p.o.s., and then invest a little more into it if you actually do enjoy it.all in all i'd say craigslist is your best bet, or the classifieds in your local newspaper

i was expecting this thread to be much more meta.i interpreted the title wrong.

one of my first bikes as i got older was a trek 800 sport back in 96 i believe. overall, pretty good bike for what it was. good components, solid frame, tires that ran well on the road and on trails. you could probably find a used one for about $100-200. i might still have mine actually if you'd wanna check it out. i'll have to check on that tomorrow.

ooh ooh what kind? details, girl, details!
8/16/2009 11:06:52 PM
I often wonder if Skack at his peak of riding could bunny hop higher than Lance Armstrong. On the one hand, Lance is the man. He is a elite athlete and he spends more time on a bike than pretty much anybody ever.On the other hand, those road weenies don't really practice their bunnyhops and I was all about grinding handrails and shit.I just wish I had the chance to challenge him to a bunnyhop contest back in the day. Unfortunately I never got that chance.

Go to a bike shop. Have them help you out with picking out what size frame you need. Talk with them and they'll point you in the right direction. I had a great experience with Flythe neaby Glennwood in downtown Raleigh. The most important thing is getting a bike that fits you. Otherwise, you aren't going to be comfortable with it and you'll likely give up on any idea of riding because it won't "pleasure" you...After you learn a few things, go out and search craigslist. If you think you might ride offroad into some dirt now and then, just get a hartail mountainbike. You can ride them on the street/asphault with no problem. This way you don't get a pure street bike, leaving you wishing that you could go somewhere... Now if down the road you want something more serious, sell the hardtail and get a street bicycle...Here's a couple to get you started. Just be sure to ride them first and make sure the frame is your size...http://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1327270308.htmlhttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1326856278.htmlhttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1326813535.htmlhttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1326723536.htmlhttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1326409950.html

seems like you want a hybrid bike, what sort of trails do you want to do? how much road performance do you want?
