"Strong Meteor Shower Expected Tonight

space.com – Tue Aug 11, 9:19 am ET

The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.

In North America, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but late Tuesday night and also Wednesday night could prove fruitful, weather permitting.

The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors..."

I might want to get out and check out the sky late night if there isn't too much cloud cover. Anyone else heard about the shower tonight?

It was clear out here at GSO for a while now and it figures I'd actually start seeing them and high clouds move in.

You should've seen the night sky in Iraq (at least when it wasn't dusty). Many miles away from ANYTHING.

also, every night is a meteor shower at 20k' on NVGs. There are meteors all the time...you just don't usually see them with the naked eye.

same here wwwebsurfer

except there's less light pollution here than in F-ville

and it's been storming so there's patchy cloud cover

and the moon is really bright

I have not been able to see one as of yet

bunch of us drove all the way out to BFAngier... we saw about 10 between the 6 of us during the cloud breaks

i think we had more fun sitting in a field drinking and telling really bad jokes than we did watching meteors.

10/10 would do again

I didn't even try to look for meteors last night. Too cloudy, and my neighborhood has too many street lamps (light pollution) to allow me a good view without driving somewhere.

They say you can still see some tonight, but I think it will be too cloudy again

Clearest sky I ever saw was in the middle of nowhere in AZ around 11pm when driving from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. Either that or when I was on Maui last summer (on the desert side away from development). Easy as hell to see shooting stars and orbiting satellites.
