Someone close to you is job-hunting, and has been for some time; said job-hunt took on a new urgency after a layoff. You keep your eyes peeled, and actively search for leads for them. If you call them to tell them of a position that you saw and the only information you have is a job title and employer, what would you think if their reaction is "I've told you to email me this stuff!"? You know that if it's not emailed to them, they will do nothing with the information. [Edited on August 13, 2009 at 4:11 PM. Reason : s]

personally, I would tell them "Hey man, I was just trying to help....but don't worry, that stops now"then I would wait for them to say "wtf?!"which is when I would say "I was trying to help. I don't need the attitude"then, I would either get an apology, or I wouldn't be helping anymore]

If they ain't doing anything about it if it doesn't come via email, they don't really sound all that motivated to me.Fuck 'em.

if they aren't affecting my income (i.e. you aren't talking about a roommate or boyfriend, etc.), then i'd probably just back away slowly.sometimes people don't really want to be helped, regardless of what they say.

EMCE hit the nail on the head.

I'm just thinking from the perspective of someone that is desperate to find a job. I'd imagine that such a person would jump all over any kind of lead, especially after a long drought. I know I would. Their response pretty much tells me that they aren't that desperate to find a job.
8/13/2009 4:50:47 PM
That's my take on things. Yes, I know said person's memory isn't that great, but that's why I followup on leads given verbally.

My opinion? Fuck 'em.

tell them they shoulda picked a better major.

You should make them a sandwich that is comprised of paper clippings of the pertinent emails they requested. Then when he starts to spit it out in disgust, fart in his face and run for it.

I would stop helping that person and start helping me find a mechanical engineering position in Raleigh. I won't ever be laid off at my current job but really want to move back to that area.If you have any leads I would be happy to receive them via PM
8/14/2009 3:14:44 PM
Why not email them?
8/14/2009 4:34:23 PM
If I'm driving around, there's one.Or I'm at work and dealing with 11tybillion things.Or I just don't feel like it. In short? Because they're the one needing a job, not me. I email them plenty of leads. Beggars can't be choosers.
