Because it's caused by a virus and not temperature?

If you swallowed instead of spitting at the glory hole, your immune system would be stronger.

colds are caused by viruses. viruses are transmitted by person-to-person exposure. winter colds are the most prevalent, because more people spend more time inside, in close proximity to other people.

the spike in summer colds can be due to large numbers of people taking vacations and trips, contacting other people from different areas and being exposed to new strains of viruses that their bodies have not built an immunity. these people become a vector for the spread of infection when they return to their community.

stress on the body definitely reduces your immune systems ability to fight viruses and bacteria.

I got bronchitis this summer. You get colds and such from being around a lot of people.

My highschool biology teacher explained colds this way too. I have thought about it and I think its bologna. My exposure to people doesn't change that much regardless if its summer or winter. I still go to work, where I have the same level of exposure to people all year long.

I think colds are actually caused by the cold. Your body has to divert resources to increasing body temp instead of fighting off viruses/bacteria. Also, if you don't get proper rest and let your body get run down you are more susceptible to colds.

Its possible more time inside during winter is a factor, but sure doesn't seam to be the biggest factor for why colds are more prevalent in winter.
