Empowered by a term that extends into 2022, Pat Toomey is hitting Trump hard on tariffs. He's backed by Corker (not seeking reelection out of primary fears). +1 for them, I guess.

How is it fucking possible that in June 2018 the fucking GOP is holding YET ANOTHER session on god damn emails.

Also today’s hearing will be used to try and remove Rosenstein. Just watch...

1 - Because they can hold hearings on whatever the fuck they want, however many times they want, for however long they want, as long as it continues to plays well at home with their base (which it REALLY does). They know ain't shit gonna happen with the emails, but they would all LOVE to continue being in Congress.

2 - Because they have learned from POTUS that diversion is really fucking effective.

Marco’s got no time for the victims of the shooting last night but plenty to worry about the discourse.

(He is obviously subtweeting the CNN interview with the survivors)

Wasn’t Marco the one making penis jokes during a debate?

Also, when it finally comes out just what Trump has on these guys it’s going to be mind bending. I can’t think of any other logical reason why they twist themselves into pretzels for Trump.

yeah said he had small hands, said trump is old and has to use a mirror to see if he wet his pants, said he doesn't sweat because of all the spray tan (but then he also said trump had a sweat mustache), called trump orange, made fun of trump's spelling, made fun of trump's hair

but that was before trump one and they all offered their fealty

^^I doubt he has anything on him. This is just what the Republican Party is now. Trump has captured the Republican Party and completely transformed it into a white nationalist party. The Republican members who are refusing to get off are just making their choice to stay politically relevant to their extremist group

If plain old Republicans are white nationalists, what the fuck is Richard Spencer et al? Is Susan Collins visiting KKK rallies in her free time? This is deranged thinking.

Inflammatory talk, but you're close. Members of congress want to remain in congress, regardless of party. That reality influences all their decisions. GOP members can't oppose Trump because they'll get primaried right the fuck out of office. There are real fractures in the GOP that Trump has exacerbated, but these people want to stay in office.

Quote :

To not get primaried.

amazing that a party that has been the party of dog whistles for 40+ years now feels emboldened enough to air their racism publicly

those who choose to side with those racists are totally complicit, and fear of being primaried is no excuse

How is what I said inflammatory, when you just agreed with me? Trump is a white nationalist, and he's dragging his party members with him because they want to stay "politically relevant to their extremist group," which consists of potential primary challengers who are even further to the right, like you just described?

How is acknowledging this phenomena in clear terms considered inflammatory?

I met a few GOP House Reps this week in DC and spent a few hours with them discussing the political realities on the hill, but they are not white nationalists. It's fun to call names, but there are many factions within that party.

Their individual personalities have no bearing on the policies they endorse or the behavior they encourage.

Guess what? If they endorse family separations at the border, or defend Muslim travel bans, or think that BLM is a threat that needs to be put down, then it doesn't matter how fuckin' chummy they are over martini's

Eh, just about everything Trump has done could have been stopped by 2-3 Republican votes. Accommodating political realities is why Joe Manchin has to do shit like this,

so the Democrats keep a critical vote in the Senate that they otherwise wouldn't have. It's not an excuse for enabling Trump.

Dog whistling is my favorite leftist meme. It's the perfect accusation - you can ascribe any motive to anyone, and there's absolutely nothing they can do to defend themselves. Plus, even if there's nothing that a person has said, ever, that could be construed as __ist, you get to believe that they're __ist, which means they're properly "othered" and can be ignored going forward.

I have to admit I do this too when I assume that most if not all libs are "virtue signaling", which implies a lack of sincerity. It feels good to hate, doesn't it progressives?

The thing is, they're not even dog whistling anymore. They're actively dehumanizing them and chumps like destroyer will say, "ahhhh akshually leftists are just old Jews and feminists virtue signalling. They're the real racists, everybody!"

Watching destroyers transition from libertarian shithead to alt-light has been pretty remarkable.

Were there votes on the hill for those issues that I missed? Link me. Where is this endorement you speak of?

Executive actions by one do not define the views of the entire party. To paint with a broad brush like that is lazy and wildly devoid of intellect.

[Edited on June 30, 2018 at 12:12 PM. Reason : Do you actually dispute that the party is fractured or is name calling just more fun than critical thought?]

Are you trying to defend the Rs who blocked the Obama SCOTUS nomination, or the ones who voted for the latest tax bill?

Quit giving them excuses, they know what they're doing. They're choosing to be dragged along

Is Synapse one of those "never Trump" Republicans who is not sure how to come to grips with the fact that his party has always used racism, sexism, and xenophobia to sow working class divisions and funnel money out of the hands of the working poor into the hands of corporate interests?

Like, does he seriously think the party will just return to the old "racism around the edges" party of yesteryear?

+1 for Jeff Flake

Quote :
"Well, Sen. Jeff Flake finally had enough, and he did something. The retiring Arizona Republican sits on the Judiciary Committee. He recently began blocking Donald Trump’s judicial nominees, who have otherwise been getting confirmed as quickly as the administration can send them to the Senate. After a few days of coy silence, he went public: He was blocking judges until the Senate held a vote on tariffs unilaterally imposed by Trump. They were, finally, the breaking point."
