So I've got a small problem. Have a 5+ gallon bucket that I had some old parts in including a small container about half full of BMW gear oil. It should have been sealed properly but as I got distracted a rain storm came up when I had it sitting outside and I forgot about it.
A little rain would normally be no big deal which is what I thought, but apparently it was left sitting right under a roof run off that was more like a water fall. So now the gas tank/oil tank with the gear oil is submerged and has been filled with water with the gear oil seeping out creating gallons of toxic sludge.
Question is what the hell do I do with it? I can't transport it in an open container thats full to the rim of water nor can I just go dump it down a parking lot drain. 8/22/2009 2:54:42 PM |

wait till the oil and water separate, remove water, take oil to autozone for disposal. 8/22/2009 3:19:58 PM |

Just pour it down the sink. I find that a little battery acid will chase it right down. If you don't have any of that, the blood of small puppies or baby seals works fine as well.

do not, and i repeat, do not pour some gas in the there and light it, because the plastic bucket will melt, and the napalm mixture will run down the driveway, creating a 10' tall wall of flame that a water hose won't do shit for, just ask Jeepman 8/22/2009 6:56:47 PM |

Pull the parts out and wrap it up in some cloths or bags and throw those away into the trashcans at the auto parts store. Then do what tchenku said. All auto parts places will take any oil. Even if it's relatively shitty. 8/22/2009 10:28:31 PM |

find one of the storm drains with the fish spray painted on it. those are safe for dumping oil and chemicals. 8/23/2009 12:21:00 AM |
