After 6 years, Michael asked me to marry him last night! It was on my Dad's birthday, which makes it even more special. He did it at dinner, which we were doing for Dad's birthday... so I thought.

We all ordered drinks, and he kept saying "Ooh, that sparkling wine is good! You should get that!" And I said "Nah, I'll have the Sangria." So, he orders a chardonnay. I still didn't think anything of it. So when the drinks came, we ordered dinner and went on about our talking.

He says, "There's something in my drink... Woah, Bethany, look at this. What is it?" He didn't sound fake or over excited or anything, so I glanced over and was like "There's nothing in there...wait a minute..." He had dropped the ring in his wine and I saw it at the same time he started sliding his chair back. So I'm crying, laughing, hugging and kissing him all at the same time!

The ring is beautiful! Pics coming soon!

congrats... but i wonder why people still feel compelled to put rings in glasses of alcohol. do they not realize the high probability of it being swallowed and/ or otherwise ruined?

more importantly, it's played out and cheesy as hell

he should have spray painted "will you marry me" on the tunnel. a lot more romantic than what you just described.

I don't care if you like the story or not. Things don't have to be completely original to be sweet.

His original plan was for the waitress to bring the box out, which they had all planned out anyway; but he said he couldn't wait.

We rinsed it off, so it wasn't sticky.

well, now it makes your dads bday or your anniversary less important. better to have your own unique day.

I gave my wife the engagement ring after we were married.

We just decided to get married one day... Then she told her mom, and her mom did the whole wedding planning for us.

When I did get her the engagement ring, I was training for the deployment at the time. I dressed up in the suit she liked the best. I cooked, gave her a massage, and asked if she could, would she marry me again? She laughed and said yes, so I slipped it on her finger.

Then we commenced making love all night.

It was great.

Congratulations!!! When's the big day?

dyne, you don't have anniversaries of your engagement... well, usually. I guess if you want more presents you would As for her dad, if he likes the guy then it makes for a great memory.

Congrats, girl!

krneo1: You have the right idea, no engagement anniversaries. My parents really like him, so it definitely made for a great memory! Dad said he was happy to get the promise of a son in law for his birthday.

Apocalypse: That's a cool idea too. We still have plenty of time to get married, I still have at least 3 more semesters till I get my Master's, and I want it to be after that.

you people... do you really think this girl cares if you wouldn't have proposed the exact same way her fiance did? She is excited, he is relieved, and they are both going to be happy together in the future (hopefully.)

yeah, it's like each person has a different color of sand and they dump them together and say something about how you can't separate the two colors of sand just like they can't be separated

the stupid part being that they can be separated much quicker than the two colors of sand could be separated

Yes, what a cliche way to propose. But if you're engaged and happy, fuck it.

OK so, a funny story about the Sand Ceremony thing. a friend of mine married a real "winner" a few years ago (which is code for loser-and-a-half). they decided to do a Sand Ceremony, and when it's time for them to start pouring, the preacher says, "Mike, this sand represents you: all that you are, and all that you ever will be."

yes, that's right, you're marrying a guy who will never amount to anything more than colored sand in a fucking flower vase.

i giggled the rest of the ceremony

Is that was the sand ceremony is? That sounds incredibly gay.

well, you can separate it, but it's time consuming and will probably cost a lot of money.

Thanks a lot for the congrats and future wishes!

Here's a pic of the ring. It's a floating diamond, if you know what that is.
