Anyone else ever heard this incredibly stupid lie? In case the short title wasn't clear, I have heard on several occasions that every town name in North Carolina occurs twice, e.g. there are two Troys, two Lizard Licks, two Black Ankles, etc.

How do you even come around to believing in something so obviously false enough to repeat it? I mean, have you ever in your life told someone you were going to Charlotte and been asked, "Which one?" The mind boggles!

Don't get me started. It's not only the same name. It's similar names: ... greenville, greensboro ... goldston, goldboro ... Ashville, Ashboro ...

I've never heard of what happens in the OP. After looking into it though, I found another city named Wilson in between Asheville and Black Mountain.


I do hate how some cities are not in counties of the same name.
Beaufort is not in Beaufort County
Lenoir is not in Lenoir County
Mooresville is not in Moore County
Neither Vance nor Vanceboro is in Vance County

The list goes on.
