I'm wanting to make an incense burner out of one of my bottles...there are instructions online...you need a drill with a diamond tip bit??? if you have that it should be a quick thing.
Anyone?

Even with an actual glass grinder you'd have to be careful.

its not really that hard if you have the proper equipment and a decently steady hand
i think the key is steady pressure(last time i did it was years ago so i dont fully remember)

It would take a long time by hand though, unless there's a way I don't know about. The bit on a glass grinder is so fine that its basically just stainless steel that isn't polished. And it turns at only 30 to 80 rpm.

I drilled a hole through a Goldschlager bottle a few years ago. I used a dremel grinding bit that came in a lawn mower blade sharpening kit and went REALLY slow. You just have to be patient, otherwise you'll definitely break it.

Just make sure it's tempered glass.. that's the key.

If it's not tempered, don't even bother

It's not hard to get a diamond tip bit... I would bet Lowes/home depot sells them.

Industrial diamonds (used on those bits) and the diamonds for jewelry are a bit different (no pun intended...).

dremel, glass grinder, steady hand

that's all you need

[Edited on August 24, 2009 at 10:56 PM. Reason : and proper safety gear, of course]

A hand crank drill and a super find grinding bit might do it. A dremel is likely to be too fast, I'm not saying it cant be done but its real likely to shatter.
