I had my 8 GB sticking out of the front of the desktop and the desktop was on the floor next to the board while I was giving a lecture. I stepped backward and stepped on the body of the stick. It stayed inside the USB slot, but bent downwards (with the base of the USB adapter as the fulcrum) until the body touched the floor. I pulled it out and unbent it. The body is intact, the USB adapter is intact, it retracts and comes out as it should, and it inserts into the computer smoothly.

But it doesn't show up on the computer when I insert it now.

I am sure the data is intact, as the body of the disk is not damaged at all. How can I get the data out? The problem is I believe the connection between the circuit board inside and the USB adapter. Can someone open the shell of the disk and make the connection again so the data can be accessed?

Thanks.

if you pop it open, you'll see that there are four contact points where the USB connector meets the memory board...those points aren't usually very strong, so you probably broke one or more of those four contact points

you could probably almost just glue those points back together, but soldering it would, of course, be safer

in any case, once you get your stuff off, you should probably toss it

^^+1

If you or a friend has decent soldering skills do it, otherwise take it to a good computer or electrical shop. Someone there should (hopefully) be proficient in soldering.
