I've seen the LGBT, but when did we tack queer on to that? And why do they need $50K liquid fund? They don't even elude to how it will be spent, what their purpose is or anything. We're queer, send $.

for someone named "websurfer" you sure are seriously search-challenged. are you really unable to sort these things out?

it took me all of 7 seconds to find out that the money goes to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the nations' first and only LBGTQ-focused High School.

http://www.hmi.org/

so your money would go to that.

Google searching the name of the institute in the top of the ad revealed this:

Quote :
"Since its founding, The Hetrick-Martin Institute has grown from a small, volunteer-led grass-roots advocacy organization into a leading professional provider of social support and programming for at-risk lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Hetrick-Martin youth members, ranging in age from 12 to 21, come from 174 zip codes throughout all of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. They are of all colors and sizes, come from all kinds of backgrounds, and their enthusiasm and creativity is boundless.

Hetrick-Martin is also the host agency for the groundbreaking Harvey Milk High School, devoted to serving at-risk youth and founded in 1985 in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, which administers the school and is responsible for admissions."

So the Q is for questioning.

And I think the rest of it is Xavier's school for gifted gay youngsters.

It looks like it's for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, a group that originally founded the Harvey Milk High School. The Institute supports the school and provides legal assistance and counseling to gay youth. This money will help them do that. It's a jazzy ad, I guess. It's supposed to cutting edge and whatnot so maybe that's why it's not so clear. I don't imagine this money is going to some Streisand wig fund.

One comment I read:

Quote :
"It's a shame that this company doesn't spend its money on starving, abused, etc. children and instead focuses on this issue."

http://adage.com/goodworks/post?article_id=136466

A lot of these kids are starving and abused so I guess this commenter would actually agree that Levi's is doing a great thing! And getting a little advertising for themselves in the process...everybody wins! And nobody gets hurt...really, if any of you are actually hurt by this, you need to check yourselves...just don't donate, and there you go, problem solved!

It looks like I wasn't the only one to come up with that connection based on what I just saw on the Harvey Milk School's wiki entry:

In Marvel Comics' Ultimate X-Men series, Northstar, one of Marvel's most prominent homosexual mutant superheroes, mentions his coming out experience and his mother trying to enroll him in the Harvey Milk School. He refused due to his belief that enrolling would only promote segregation of hetero- and homosexual students. Consequently, he refuses an offer by the X-Men to enroll at Professor Xavier's mutant school, the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning for similar reasons.

I know in the main x-man storyline Northstar is with the x-men, but that's neither here nor there.

In looking at pics on their faceobook page, their certainly have a nice place for parties (but I don't think that is the school itself).
