I just bought a new bike (my second one). An 06' CBR 600 and my motorcycle permit is about to expire in 10 days. It allows me to ride without a passenger, but I want to take the road test to get a real license. My question is what kinds of things do they test you on. Like do I have to do a figure 8? What is the test like? Do they follow me on a motorcycle or ride on mine or follow in a car? Any information would be helpful. Thanks. 9/8/2009 12:08:02 AM |

no, it's a stupid parking lot test...riding around cones, etc. I don't remember the details of what you have to do, as it's probably been close to 10 years since I took it, but it's nothing you should have too much trouble with if you are any good at riding.
my only advice is to be liberal with the throttle on the slalom...get going fast enough that you can countersteer through the cones rather than have the bike wallowing around on you. 9/8/2009 12:14:04 AM |

it's pretty damn hard on a sport bike. the place I was at had an uneven pavement and the guy had me making complete stop and go's but said if my foot touched the ground once I failed. needless to say I failed. 9/8/2009 12:48:50 AM |

oh yeah, they didn't make me come to a TOTAL stop on those...and yeah, a sportbike is not the best tool for the job. Still, it isn't very difficult. 9/8/2009 12:51:21 AM |

i took the test on a rebel 250...much easier than on a bigger bike, i would assume
it's not hard if you know how to ride, though 9/8/2009 10:38:06 AM |

I did my test on a VFR 750, mostly on one wheel. And the test bitch was laughing too hard to fail me. 9/8/2009 11:03:29 AM |

Just got back from taking the road test. It was actually pretty easy. There was a line of about 8 cones set up that I had to slalom. I also had to go around the cones about 6 more times doing various things such as upshifting and downshifting, stopping quickly, stopping without putting feet down and then accelerating, turning without putting feet down, etc. Nothing you don't do everyday driving around. Im excited that I am actually legally able to have a passenger now and i dont feel like such a noob anymore.
Thanks for the posts though. 9/8/2009 3:13:21 PM |

If you take an approved motorcycle safety course you don't have to take the road test to get your endorsement 9/11/2009 12:59:40 PM |
