So Im putting on Itunes 9 now, and the early version of their Genius thingy that scans and makes up playlists and sugessts music never looked good to me. They supposedly redesigned it for 9.

Who uses it and how do you use it?

the new genius doesn't change a whole lot in regards to your music library. They've implemented Genius for apps for touch and phone users so that your apps can recommend other apps you may enjoy.


I read the changes to the music Genius earlier, but the details have escaped me. However, it didn't seem like anything big.

I've used genius a few times and have been pleased. It's never wowed me with its selection, but it's decent.

i use it every now and then. i have a few hand-crafted playlists that i listen to most of the time, but if i'm not in the mood for those, i put my whole library on shuffle and when it plays a song i really really like, i do a genius playlist on it and listen to that for a day or two.

when it first came out i was really excited about it, but never used it.

around three months ago i started using it. i use it mayyyyyybe once a week when i'm in a certain kind of mood, and shuffle just isn't working out for me.

i know i'll use it more once i purchase the 160GB iPod classic. But right now, with my iPhone only having about 4GB of music it really hasn't been necessary.

how in the hell can I have 50 songs by the stones, and when i hit genius it says there's not enough related songs to create a playlist??? I have nearly 3000 songs on my iphone including plenty of classic rock! there's no way it can't come up with 25...

i don't understand this shit sometimes.

^not all songs have the appropriate genius info for it. If you will notice when you try to generate a genius playlist on some songs, it won't.

yeah, maybe try resending your genius info.

i've been using genius a lot more with my iPod Classic. It's been wonderfully suprising.

if I resend like ^ says, will it work? or is it a matter of filling in more information on the song in iTunes that can help? or is it a lost cause on some tracks all together?

^It depends...if you haven't updated your genius data in a while then that might fix your issue but if you are like me and it updates every time you launch itunes then the issue isn't with your tracks but rather with Apples end and not adding those tracks to genius. I don't think its just a matter of you adding more info for each track but rather apple having to add the track to the service's back end.

^^I think if you resend, and edit some track ID tag info it may help. I've added new music to my library and tried genius right off the bat and not gotten any results for it. But after a resend it worked fine.

maybe that's all i need to do then. my hard drive crashed so i've been rebuilding my library from a piss poor backup i made (in turn lost a lot of music )...i reset it with the software upgrade for itunes and the iphone, but i didn't after i worked on rebuilding my library last night.
