EMBED NAO.

I think it's getting just a DVD release Oct. 6? Because WB is dumb.

Looks good to me. I've seen trailers much, much worse for movies that actually made it to theatrical release.

So wait... Is it like a grindhouse type of thing? With 4 smaller movies in one?

Yeah I mean it's different stories. Like Four Rooms. Like Sin City. Like Pulp Fiction. I assume they intertwine at some point.

Gonna pre-order the blu-ray I think. Heard literally nothing but glowing reviews.

watched this tonight based on enthusiasm in this thread. it was terrible... nearly unwatchable. it felt like a bad version of 'are you afraid of the dark' or a made-for-tv r.l. stein 'goosebumps' movie.

what exactly do you people like about this flick?

My buddy who is usually spot on with film recommendations told me to get this. I'm disappointed reading this thread, but will probably still watch the movie.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/10/06/this-week-in-dvd-blu-ray-year-one-trick-r-treat-anvil-the-story-of-anvil-and-more/

Quote :
"TRICK ‘R TREAT
Shunned by Warner Bros. after two years of sitting on the shelf, Trick ‘r Treat is finally being made available for viewer consumption now that it’s been slapped with the direct-to-video treatment. As much as the film may have deserved a theatrical release, where it very realistically could’ve become a sleeper hit, I feel as though I should harbor more resentment than I actually do. Reason being, I have now been given a reason to care about Halloween. Writer/director Michael Dougherty has given movie buffs everywhere a gift, not just in terms of crafting an excellent film (one that’s assuredly destined for cult classic status), but in granting us the opportunity to surprise the hell out of all of our friends on Halloween night with a trippy little horror flick that they know nothing about. Dougherty strikes a tone here unlike any horror film I’ve seen before, playing on our nostalgia (intentionally or not) by mixing elements of childhood horror favorites like Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps alongside more gory, gooey old-school horror, and then injecting it all with a sadistic, darkly comedic edge that constantly plays on your expectations and reminds you why you should never trust little kids with balloon-shaped heads. I’ve heard reviews describe Trick ‘r Treat as an anthology of different horror tales, a la Creepshow–a fitting comparison given the comic book inspirations in both–but that description may also be misleading. Instead of merely telling each story separately, Dougherty sees fit to find clever and creative ways to interweave each of the stories as they unfold over the course of one Halloween night, making the chronology of the film more akin to, say, Pulp Fiction and Go. It’s this type of ingenuity that puts Trick ‘r Treat in a league all its own, bringing back to the horror genre the one thing that it’s been so sorely lacking outside of Sam Raimi’s efforts: a sense of fun.

Blu-ray? Yes.

Notable Extras: DVD – A “Trick ’R Treat: Season’s Greetings” feature (with optional commentary by writer/director Michael Dougherty). Blu-ray – Includes everything on the DVD, as well as an audio commentary with the director, additional scenes, a special effects comparison, and another featurette on the legends of Halloween."

The 'comic-book effect' in this movie is so half-boiled... seriously, it starts with an opening montage that looks like a comic book, then at one or two random times in the movie it features a comic-book text word like 'later' or 'after that' (and you're like, oh yeh, they meant this to look like a comic book... what a terrible job they're doing at that)... and then the closing screen was like a comic book.

And trust me, despite comparisons people are trying to make, there is NOTHING pulp fiction about this movie

Glad I caught the trailer. It reminded me to have my yearly "this is the one night when all sorts of things roam free" speech with the kids.

^^^^do you actually read stuff or just blindly spew haterade upon reading certain words? it has a similar chronology to pulp fiction. it is inspired by/based on comic books.

^ dude, you're seriously going to call me out before you've watched the fucking movie??? yes, that review does indeed say it is 'inspired' by comic books, but if you WATCH the movie, you will clearly see that they are going for a comic-book effect. It is clearly more than just being inspired, and it would've been effective if they had sustained it throughout the movie instead of only using it at the beginning and end.

And I really don't agree that it's chronology is similar to pulp fiction. The chronology of pulp fiction was intelligent and left you guessing. The chronology of trick 'r treat just seemed thrown together without rhyme or reason

Throwing in a cute comic book thing is hardly something to get worked up about.

what else did you not like about this flick?

do you also dislike Creepshow?

The only story part I liked was the one about the school bus. That part was entertaining. Everything else, in my opinion, was horse shit.

I will when it arrives. I have yet to comment on the quality of the film. Just been informing you on what the sentences you are arguing with are ACTUALLY saying.
