arcgreek, I've been meaning to as you, since you seem like the most likely person to be able to answer this: Can you do muscle ups?? I can't. I can't get over the bar and press myself up. What should I do to work up to this?

I can.I assume you can do a kipped pullup...Work on muscle up rows (set the rings low so that you are not beggining at a hang, but rather your feet or knees on the ground. (if you can't find video's for this, i can find one from a freind), then jumping muscle ups. While working on these work on varing resistance band assisted muscleups (under your knees)The biggest thing I had to work on was getting power in sternum pullups, and getting adjusted to a false grip on the rings. I'd work on doing weighted kipping pullups, to get yourself up far enough to get over the bar, too.[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 4:33 PM. Reason : ]

muscle ups remind me of my favorite crossfit video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDYpEtwimZE

That will be difficult since I don't really have a location where I can specifically do such an exercise. Hell, I have to do my pull-ups on the crossbar of a smith machine.

Yea, I can't do a bar.You have a set of rings, yes?I have set my rings up everywhere... in limbs, from rafter, the power rack, the cable crossover, and even in a smith...(a smith would probably be a bit shallow, except for the mu rows. My favorite place to set mine up is from the rafters or a set of 2nd story railings in our gym.Doing them on a bar is a bit harder, and not something i've really worked on.[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 4:48 PM. Sadly, I do not have a set of rings. And as far as Crossfit videos, I'd give them a lot more respect if they could do proper form without throwing their momentum into every movement.

For a bar, you should still be able to work on sternum pullups, weighted sternum, and band assisted. You're still using a false grip as well, but the bar takes some of the leeway in form, that the rings give you.
