This isnt a debate on if either of them should be under pressure, moreso a comparison between them...

With Petey's 5th or 6th loss to an unranked team in the last 5 years should he be getting as much shit as Tressel losing slightly more games over the last few years (but too much better teams)?

comparison? how about contrast

Tressel can't win the big game

Carroll can't win the little game

I side with Carroll here

Its hard to be perfect, which is why most seasons you don't have two undefeated BCS conference teams playing for the championship. If my team is going to lose one game, do I want to lose in the game when everyone is watching vs another National Power, or do I want to lose to a shit team when most people will just see the highlights ?

I go with the latter. If you win the little games but lose the big one, your talent level and coaching ability comes into question. When USC lost to Washington, Oregon State, Stanford, etc. no one though Washington was better, and that USC wouldn't win 9 out of 10. It was just a fluke set of circumstances that led to the upset. When Ohio State lost to Texas, LSU, Florida, USC, etc, everyone questioned their talent level and Tressel's coaching ability.

Essentially what I'm saying is that while USC's losses are troubling, they just seem like thorns in the side of a monster...no one is doubting that Carroll is the best coach of the decade. With Ohio State, it feels like they're always the bridesmaid...they can beat up all the little teams, but can never take down the big boys. While it seems strange to say you'd rather lose to Washington than lose to USC, thats essentially what I'm saying, spaced out over the course of 6-7 years.

^yea and with slave famous here you look at carroll's losses as "flukes" and tressel's losses as "his team is never good enough"

so i take that approach as well, but petey should get some attention for losing these games

It's almost as if some of you listened to The Herd today and then posted in what you heard there.

I never listen to talk radio, but on this issue, there are basically two schools of thought, so whatever was said on the radio earlier today will no doubt be repeated in some way or form

Its basically a "choose your side and defend it" argument

Meh. I just wish both tOSU and USC would fade into obscurity (in that order) so I'd never have to hear about them contending for the national title all year, every year.

The one good thing about them playing each other for the past two seasons is that one is guaranteed a loss. The one bad thing... the game occurred too early both years so by the end of the year no one cared that tOSU had lost that game.

^^ I am just not getting used to them both being good year end and year out, during my formative college football years they were both an afterthought, especially USC

I'll bet Carroll wishes Sanchez had stayed another year

He's all like "oh well, hey lets go to Compton and find some blue chippers"

^Well said. I wish our worst problem would be a loss followed by a conference title and a birth in the BCS.
