First of all, I dont know much about these things so bear with me....
Ive got a slingbox hooked up to my TWC internet connection. I cant get my HD signal to work properly. The SD connection works great, but the HD stream is freakin awful. Is it because the Upload capability of the internet package sucks?
Would it be worth it to upgrade the internet service, and how much does that cost? (what the hell is road runner turbo?) I suppose I could call TWC about the cost part, but I figured a few of you guys have the high end internet subscription... 10/1/2009 10:15:46 PM |

yes.
standard roadrunner offers a 384kbps upload pipe, which is nowhere near enough for streaming HD. the roadrunner turbo package only goes to 512kbps, if i recall correctly (though it might be 768), which won't do you much good.
i'd say minimum you would need to reliably stream actual HD would be 1.5mbps, which you can get from at&t u-verse.

turbo's "max" upload is 512kbps. you'll get 490ish at best. i ran speedtests constantly when i had it. we're running standard now just because there was almost no point in upgrading for the little increase you actually get.

our broadband is seriously a joke around here... especially given the fact that RTP is like 2 miles down the road.
TWC is bitching because everyone called them out on the consumption-based billing stuff so now they're acting like first graders and not rolling out DOCSIS 3.0
while comcast, despite their 250GB cap, has been offering 22mbps/50mbps down for a while now... and their LOWEST upload tier is 2mbps with an available 10mbps. even with all this, they still pay CONSIDERABLY less than we do.] 10/1/2009 10:34:36 PM |

I looked into the old slingbox untill I found out it only transmitted 640x480. I guess thats all you need if your streaming to an I phone or blackberry.
Since you say the HD stream is horrible I guess you have the new one. evan is right you can't stream HD on TWC with any internet package they offer. While looking up specs for the slingbox pro-hd, I ran across this
Quote : | "3.You must have a network connection to your Slingbox PRO-HD with sustained upload speed of at least 1.5-2 Mbps for a good streaming experience." |
