Has anyone seen this yet? This was a movie actually made a couple of years ago but hasn't been in wide release yet. They actually screened it in Durham at midnight but I was unable to go. It looks pretty good from the trailer, has sort of that "Blair Witch Project" feel to it.

I obviously can't judge it without having seen it, but I'm guessing it's your basic "scary thing jumps out at you for a brief second" horror movie. I'm also willing to betting that it's only scary if you believe in ghosts and all that stuff; if you're already skeptical, this movie won't do anything for you.

But only time and Rotten Tomatoes will tell.

Pretty sure it's not your basic jump-scare horror movie.

i hope its not a "jumps scare" movie, that is such a lame way to make a horror movie

Quote :
"The ultra-low-budget horror film Paranormal Activity has been building acclaim over the past year since it screened at the Screamfast and Slamdance film festivals. I was able to see this film, in the dark, in an outdoor park, at the Telluride Film Festival, and I think Paramount has the next Blair Witch Project on their hands, if they market it right. Even if you aren’t creeped out, you’re sure to have a lot of fun if you see this in a packed auditorium. Teenage girls at my screening were screaming throughout. A door opens by itself, scream. Nothing happens, scream. The way this film builds tension, will have you on the edge of your seat, and your date squiring and gripping for your arm in the seat next to you."

Quote :
"The film was shot for $11,000 over the period of one week, for the most part with two actors in a house."

See this shit for that fact alone if it gets a semi-wide release.

I'm tired of "must see movies" because they are low budget or have only a few actors

oh that note though, I would see it

It's must see because I've heard nothing but good things about it, on top of the fact that a budget of $11,000 is ABSURD. Especially if it ends up getting in some theaters.

What movies are you tired of?

There hasn't exactly been an influx of uber-low budget films.

Steven Spielberg even loved the movie if that means anything to you. Even though he loved it, he suggested a new ending to writer-director Oren Peli. Peli liked the suggestion so much he changed it and now says "Most people say it's one of the scariets parts of the movie."

^^^yeah, the trailer does hint at a major part of the movie (which made it less intense)

I didn't really think it was as scary as it was hyped to be, but I will say there could be some difficulty sleeping (def. some realistic/plausible things that could happen)

^ I agree. I saw the midnight showing last night at Southpoint. Their were a couple of scenes that made me jump. The ending scared the shit out of me.
I recommend get your tickets early if you want to see it. I got my tickets at Southpoint around 5pm and they had about 37 seats left.

I'm pretty sure they will put this out again in wide release without the midnight only showings. I read they were doing this to try and get a good word of mouth about the movie going so that once it hit regular theaters, the response would be huge. Just give it about a month or so.

oh yeah, saw it Sunday night...it was awesome.

It is a very stressful movie to watch, without all the sudden "pop" scare tactics that most horror movies use these days. I was on the edge of my seat basically all night after the first 15 min.

And yes, I was nervous walking through my house in the dark after seeing it.

Haha...I totally felt the same way. As I was laying in bed that night, I kept opening my eyes trying to see if there were any lights coming on or off or anything...haha.

I just got back from seeing this movie at Southpoint. Easily the scariest movie I've ever seen, I could not wait for it to be over. Similar style to Blair Witch, but much much better. There were a couple times where I got the chills from head to toe. I don't think I would recommend watching this film if you have experienced any kind of paranormal weirdness in your house because you will never be the same after watching it.

'Paranormal Activity' isn't your normal film
Oct. 12, 2009

Quote :
"It has no-name actors, it was shot in a nondescript tract house and it allegedly had a production budget of just $15,000.

But thanks to its creepy subject matter and a viral marketing campaign rivaling 1999's 'The Blair Witch Project,' over the weekend 'Paranormal Activity' broke the 22-year-old record of 'Platoon' for a movie opening on fewer than 200 screens.

Playing in just 160 theaters around the U.S., the modest horror film sold an unprecedented $7.1 million in tickets. That was good enough to put it in fifth place for the weekend with a per-screen average of $44,163 — easily surpassing the average of this weekend's No. 1 film, the comedy 'Couples Retreat,' which averaged $11,780 in 3,000 theaters.

'You almost do a double take when you look at that theater count for a movie in the top five,' said box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Hollywood.com. 'That’s amazing. That's unprecedented.'"

saw it in charlotte last night.

pretty fucking creepy. definitely worth a watch. took me a while to fall asleep last night.

it'd be 1000x more scary if you watched it alone at home or something. in a theatre full of people talking, screeching, gasping, commenting ("oh hell naw, don't be doin' that shit!) kind of diminished the scariness a bit. still, i'm glad i went.

I really REALLY want to go see it.
BUT:
- I don't want to watch it at Southpoint. (Mission Valley or Crossroads would be best). I guess I could go to North Hills.
- I want to go when no one else will be in the theater (early evening on a weekday?)
- I'm pretty sure my friends will not come with me because they think it'll be a joke.
- It's hard to get my bf to go to a theater without beer.

Question, is it filmed kindof like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu5p1R842SQ
with crazy pop ups?

for those of you who haven't wasted their money yet:

it's a 2009 version of the Blair Witch Project only it's in some suburban San Diego house and there's a demon instead of a witch
