The other Avett Brothers threads appeared to be dead. I don't know if anyone else cared, but their new CD came out on Tuesday.

I've listened to it a few times now and I definitely like it but it is not what I was expecting. A little slower and a lot less banjo.

The single I and Love and You was the Starbucks iTunes song of the week and they have their albums in most Starbucks throughout the US so says my friend thats works at a Starbucks in Chicago

my favorite song on the album is January Wedding.

I also really like Ten Thousand Words.

I know this is cliche, but whatever.

They've lost their charm on this album.

It has a couple gems; but overall, meh.

How are the old threads dead when there is a two pager like 3 pages back

Anyway. It's a good album for what it it. But it's not there best nor is it the break out piece it was acclaimed to be

The threads that are alive were for Avett shows and whatnot

I figured the album could have its own

They don't know how to play a banjo, so I don't know why people are disappointed in "a lot less banjo." I feel as though I'm constantly repeating myself when I say this, but somehow the message is still lost...

You idiots do know a banjo is tuned in open G, right? Are you just "fascinated" with how a banjo sounds when you hear shit just strummed on it? Because I'm sure you could all just go out and buy a banjo and do 1 4 5 chord progressions all day and sound just as good as the Avett Brothers.

Instrumentally (technically, in other words), the Avett Brothers are shit. What you have in this new album is Columbia Records extorting everything in their sound they feel would sell to a mass audience, whilst everything else such as their half-assed approach to playing instruments, is ditched. Why are you people complaining so much? Did you honestly think their sound would survive a transition to a mass record label?

By the way, I've been playing banjo for maybe like a year now, and I'm confident in saying I'm sure that I can play everything note for note in the Avett Brothers catalogue of half-assed jackassery.

Each song is decent on its own, but as an album it all sounds too similar and slow, and it is certainly missing the banjo/up-tempo/screaming from previous albums.

and Scrumples is a jealous douche as well.

Jealous of what?

I guess I am jealous that an overrated band is raking in on you idiots with things any high schooler could play, because you're too stupid to realize this shit is just a fad and you blow all your money at their shows as some such immature excuse to get loaded and feel sorry for yourselves.

I like this album. Maybe not as much as some of their others, but it's still good.

Scrumples: There's a lot more to being a band / writing music than technical merit. Hence (I suspect) why I haven't heard any of your work. Death Metal is typically very technical and complex, but you would never catch me listening to that shit.

That's essentially what I said in the other thread, but there's hardly anything original in this band, and they're highly overrated. I just don't understand how people can just get...obsessed over them. It doesn't necessarily offend me, it's just...unfathomable. For instance, you know, as well as most of their other fans know this album is terrible. But your rose-colored glasses prevent you from saying otherwise...

Hell, people are listening to this multiple times trying to force their way into liking it, probably stemming from an absolute obsession with this band.

I won't ever understand it....

It's because I know quite a few people who are obsessed with them. I just don't understand it.

I probably wouldn't hold such a bitter opinion if I was of the obsessive mentality about the band or could relate with such mentality.

I've tried several times to like it, not because I have some burning desire to like them but because people whose opinions I typically trust told me it was quality. I kept thinking I was missing something until I just decided that they're really not that good.

I bought this album last week and I was highly disappointed. Then I saw them live over the weekend, and they really turned me on to the new material; I've probably listened to this album 3-4 times since Saturday. It's more the passion they put into the music than the actual sound.

I too play the banjo, but I still love the Avetts. Better they become popular than the Jonas Brothers...

Kick Drum Heart has been rocking my world for a while, now along with Tin Man and January Wedding.

I could listen to the entire CD's of Mignonette, Emotionalism and Carolina Jubilee on repeat for an extremely long time, however I don't feel that way about I and Love and You. I still thoroughly enjoy the CD though.

Also, I know this is said about most bands, but Avett concerts are truly amazing and far better than anything they'll ever release from a studio. ^all too common testimonial.

Avett's upgrading the venue in Asheville for the New Years Eve show. Tickets went on sale today.

Initially, they were playing the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Now, they're playing in the Civic Center.

Bunch of bitching and complaining on the boards about the move. But fuck it.

Here's the capacity breakdown:

Thomas Wolfe Auditorium: 2431
Asheville Civic Center: 7654

I hope their show is better than it was last NYE. Don't get me wrong it was a good show and I got to see Jason Webley, Paleface, and JLM but the avett's set just left a lot to be desired.

That being said, i will not be at this show. But i hope it's good for those attending

The Avetts sound within 15% of every modern bluegrass act I've ever heard.

LZ stole riffs and lyrics from nearly-forgotten blues songs, sure, but they took their sound much farther than any vaguely similar band of the time.
