We need to bring in some one who can fucking teach the kids to tackle and who won't call shitty defensive plays

while i'm not a supporter of archer's scheme, i think there should be a ban on thread creation for the first 3 hours after a loss. people always say the most rash things when they are angry. i'm actually really bad about that during games...i go through such wild swings of emotion that i don't think i should post during games anymore

i don't know whose job it is to teach the kids how to tackle, but that one is not squarely on the DC.

our pass defense is dispicable. disgraceful. shameful. horrible. sickening.

"hey, lets only give up 8 yard a play in the air! that'll stop 'em!"

fuck you.

Last year I thought they did that^ because they didnt think our secondary could cover anyone.

I just dont fucking know enough about football to figure out if he is that retarded or doing it based on personnel.

Didn't Kentucky get better when Archer left? Shouldn't that have been enough of a sign that he needs to go?

The one thing I liked about Chuck was frequent blitzes and man coverage. Can we do that please thanks

it doesnt matter if we are worse at man-to-man than zone. you have to mix it up a little to confuse the offense at times, even if all you do is show man-to-man and drop back into zone after the snap. lining up 10 yards away from receivers and going backwards EVERY snap is just asking to wear out our defense while letting them chew up yardage.

i wonder about archer's gameplanning but a LOT of the issue is our inability to wrap up and make tackles.

Other people get to complain about their teams dropping into prevent defense at the end of games. At least we don't have that problem, we play prevent the entire game. It seems like the plan is to rely on dropped passes on 3rd downs to force a punt.

This isn't the first thread about the bend, don't break defense. Probably won't be the last.

We've been starting/playing two former walk-ons at both safety and corner....Koyal George at CB and Bobby Floyd at SS. Not making excuses but don't act like he is working with pros back there. Plus his top corner (Morgan) and safety (Clem Johnson) have been battling injuries.

I keep hearing the excuse that we are playing walk-ons in the secondary. If that's the case, and we truly can't cover anyone, then why the fuck is the solution to rush 4 and play a soft zone and give the QB four hours every passing play to find the open men?

would you rather we rush 6 and then play man with the remainder of our shitty DBs?

was that a serious fucking question?

yeah, actually I would. If they are gonna be wide the fuck open regardless, let's choose the option that doesn't give the quarterback time to make a sandwich and then find which open receiver he wants to throw to.

thinking it's too early in the season for this kind of thread.

skinner a very capable QB vs our young secondary = nightmare for us.

but yeh, if we give up >275 yards passing to duke next week, then bump this thread to the top nonstop.

VT gave up >350 yards passing to Duke, so, I wouldn't be surprised if we have struggles with their passing game.

We were much more successful when we brought heat. Skinner was getting way too much time when we didn't blitz. But with our shitty tackling, he could've dropped it to the running back and went for 6.

well then, they'll be wide the fuck open without the extra guys behind to actually make the tackle after 2 or 3 people miss

that's the entire fucking reason we're playing the zone, to keep numbers around to make sure the big play doesn't happen

but sure, let's go ahead and rush a bunch of people and let Bobby Floyd or Koyal George match up with someone on their own, that's a GREAT idea

lol, play man with our secondary. what a fantastic idea.

when you have 6 sacks and force 3 turnovers and still lose the game, you know your defense is a joke.

on the coach's show last night, tony commented on byers playing CB. coach was like "yeah, we're trying anything at this point."

goddammit.

What is the difference between giving up 100 yards in 10 yard chunks or in 50 yard chunks--except that the latter at least gives our offense more time on the field to do something?

And I'm not even suggesting that we blitz every play, but way more than we do now, that's for sure. The fact of the matter is that every good defense brings pressure and brings it alot.

good defenses make tackles

really good defenses get enough pressure with the front 4 to allow the back 7 to make plays

willie young and TOB both commented on it being "miscommunication" in the secondary.

if you can't figure out a zone in 5 fucking games, give it up.

smith needs to get healthy quick.

^well, the front 4 did their job on saturday imo. 6 sacks, shut down the run, int and forced fumb.e.

you have a 6 yard sack, and the next play is a 20 fucking yard pass.

wait, you're blaming the offense for this?

I dunno, I think 24 points should have been enough to win this game. Add in better field position and possession time for the offense, we would have put up more points.

Our problem certainly isn't on offense.

how many three and outs did we have? outside of Baker's big run right before the end of the first half, and Wilson's "oh fuck nobody is open" scrambles, how well did we rush the ball? Dropped passes? Shitty throws?

The offense was a BIG problem. We ran the ball horribly, couldn't keep drives alive, etc, etc

That doesn't mean that we didn't fuck ourselves on special teams and with poor tackling, but if the offense hadn't shit the bed, the defense wouldn't have spent almost 35 min on the field.

^ bingo

^^ our offense in THIS game was the main problem IMO. I still have great faith in our O. Just had a poor game. Wake prepared well and made us one dimensional.

The defense is A problem I agree. But I dont think they get the majority of the blame for this one.

Just to highlight how shitty our rushing really was this game:

total yards gained: 112
take out Wilson's 46 yards of scrambling: 66 yards rushing
take out Baker's 23 yard rush against the prevent defense at the end of the first half: 43 yards

43 yards on 18 carries between Baker and Eugene. 2.3 ypc

i'm actually going to go ahead and agree with lokken here. the offense was out of it saturday.

1st down: rush for no gain/loss.
2nd down: incomlete pass/minimal gain.
3rd down: incomplete pass, or completion negated by penalty or something stupid like that.
Punt.

Russell's two int's were awful. esp the one in the endzone. with that much time left in the game, unless it's a sure thing, you should just chip away at the clock/yardage. he went for it and failed hard.

but giving up 61 points in two games is still shit. granted, the defense gets no help from the sp teams/offense (we always seem to have to punt deep in our own territory).

Wilson made the right choice, but the wrong throw. Bowens was wide open, Wilson put the ball over his head. Granted, Bowens gave up on the play making it an easier int.

yeah that last int was the right choice, bad throw. It should have gone to the inside since the reciever was wide open. He put it over right shoulder behind him.....where the defender was.

That said Wilson was still the reason we were even in a position to win the game at all, so I can't really hate on him.

I see him bouncing back very well.

yes, 349 straight completions by Wilson, im sure there are MANY college football teams who would love to have a QB who has our so-called 'Problem'...

Russell will bounce back, but im more concerned with our god-damn kicking, punting, and special teams defense..
