fiiiiiiiiiinally saw this car on the road. 3 of them actually (over 1100 miles of driving on I-95). Of course, they were all traveling the other direction so I didn't get great looks or a great idea of their size/road presence. Maybe one day soon.

I saw a BRZ coming down Jones Franklin Rd Near Tryon the other day. Blue BRZ. Looked pretty damn awesome. At first I thought it was a Genesis coupe with a factory aero kit or something, then I noticed the Subaru badge. Then I was like WOAH. Looked good.

Nah. I wanted to level the playing field, so I picked the vehicle with the same hp...

IS250.

So in this month's R&T they seem quite confident there will a FI version. They mentioned the rumor of a 280 Scion model and a 274 hp Scooby version. Wonder where they're hearing that. And then Motor Trent mentions the coming of a FI version during their Best Driver's Car competition.

Hmm, really wondering where they're hearing this crap b/c there is nothing on the internet.

There's an interesting thread on S2ki in the racing and track section about the FT-86. Stock vs stock, the S2000 dominates it, as expected, but folks are saying the FT-86 catches up pretty quickly with mods. Far better aero seems to be part of the reason (S2000 being pretty much a pig aerodynamically).

It'll be interesting to see how the aftermarket turbo ones do when they hit the track, and how the factory ones do if they ever really happen.

I somewhat want to go sit in one again, this time with a helmet, and see if the headroom issues would really bother me wearing a helmet or not.

^^^Yeah I've been reading all of psychoazn's posts. Interesting stuff. The big aerodynamic problem with the S2000 is rear lift more than anything else. Sure it's got drag at the speeds most stock S2000 circle a track it's that rear end lift that makes things trickier in high speed turns

Not a chance in hell I would trust that type of power level on stock internals at the track.

on e85... that ain't shit....

no really.... those internals are being cooled back down to stock like sizes and stress levels thanks to the 109 octane and fuck ton of energy e85 obsorbs.

i would drive it on track for DAYS like that.

and i bet the motor would even run cool with stock cooling system... you'd have to put a shit ton of fuel in it but... it would be fine

there is one near downtown and one off 55 in chapel hill...

yes... i'm still kicking around the idea of converting...

all i'm saying is those numbers ARE on e85 so that's what you should consider.

it would probably be 6 psi on pump and 280whp

OH

yeah I didn't click on the video links. Usually don't from work. So didn't realize those numbers are on E85. 6 psi sounds more like it but on cast internals with a very high stock compression ratio you have to wonder

the new focus st runs 12 psi @ 10:1 compression ratio.

^ You mean 12psi at 10:1 compression ratio. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 psi, so compression would be around 147 psi, amirite?

yes somehow ford made more hp from the k03 then a maxed out vw can.

yes psi doesn't mean shit if its nothing but hot air and timing has to be retarded to compensate for the heat.

we are not teaching turbo dynamics nor arguing about it in this thread.

if you want to know almost anything about turbo machinery pm me..

its one thing i'm REALLY good at.

actually, it's mass flow rate. that's all that matters.

more mass through that hard pumpin machine, the better.

^ nailed it

Mass flow is a function of temp, pressure and volumetric flow...

So the statement of psi vs cfm are equally significant... In being 2 parts of the whole equation

Temp is also a function of pressure ratio and compressor efficiency...

And then all this gets royally complicated when you include turbine/wastegate induced back pressure.

How's this one look to you fellas? 276 whp seems pretty respectable. They're working on a 93 octane tune as well

^^ So for ~$42k you get a 300hp turbo boxer 4, RWD with 6spd MT, 2,700lb wet weight car with a fixed roof?

A bit pricey for my taste, but respectable, imo.

^^yeah I guess. Also in case you didn't notice that's an S2000

^$26,000 car + $6,000 kit = $32,000. I'm not sure how much installation is but I would guess a lot less than $10k? And with that 91 octane tune it's 325 hp assuming 15% loss.

^I suppose he's saying he expects more power for that same investment (well, duh)

apparrently it was discussed on the forum that the kit could be upgraded to a GT35R with a turbo/intercooler/tune swap. That would be the tits... and would probably kill some other parts

After editing your comment to what you meant to say, I have to ask what would match it for the same price? The closest comparison (of power and lightweight) is a Cayman S with no options, for around $62k. It would shame a 370Z around a track, ditto an Evo or STI. And would probably be a match for a Mustang GT (inferior power to weight but far superior handling). Of course it's an aftermarket job but I'm trying to identify a superior alternative

Fingers crossed that FI comes from the factory soon, for an MSRP under $32k.

Saw a BRZ at the 1/4 mile strip today. It did 3 or 4 passes and they ranged between 15.7 and 16.0 with trap between 88 and 90mph.

An FRS parked behind me yesterday at 286 when I was biking. Talked to the owner for a few minutes, and while he seemed to really enjoy his car, he told me that he would prefer an S2000 over it.

I'm pretty sure that what I saw at the dragstrip was a fair representation of what the BRZ can do in real life, with real people and less than ideal conditions.

There were 5 FRS/BRZs in attendance at this week's C&C and I spent a lot of time talking with 1-2 owners. One was very interested in my S2000 and after he looked around it for a while I went over and checked out his BRZ. Nice looking car all around and I was amazed at how much space there is under the hood! I'm not talking about EU pedestrian crash standards space. More like you could put a large pizza box on the engine, close the hood, and not worry about pinching it at all. Really makes me question why the hood line is so high!

When sitting in the car I really liked the position of the gauges, gear shifter and steering wheel. Also the seat felt great and very supportive. However, I do not have enough leg room. Every account that I have heard from tall people regarding the interior is that they were comfortable and had enough leg room. So I was quite surprised to find that I could not slide the seat back enough to be completely comfortable. There was still clearance between the seatback and the rear seat cushion too. All I need is 1-2 extra clicks in the track . As the car sits now I would say it's leg room is inferior to the S2000 and on par with my GS-R.

Could be another deal breaker for me as I told myself my next car would have more leg room. Wonder if you can buy aftermarket seat mounts that let the seat go back further??

the thing that pisses me off is this :

make it fuel efficient or don't... but this no mans land where it landed is where my leggy is and... my legacy will out brute force the shit out of a brz in everything (grip & power)

lacking the balance and refinement... yep... but on track i promise the leggy wins even on 15psi instead of 22.
