Driving through New Orleans for a night and need hotel recommendations. Have 2-3 people and want to keep it around $100-120. Never been so i'm just looking at the top hotels on trip adviser. Would like something downtown around French Quarter that's walkable.

look into hostels (if you are trying to sleep on the cheap)...those will be cheaper....15-20 a person i think

I think there is a hostel in walking distance of the french quarter

i go to new orleans all the time for work and when i want to stay downtown i stay at the hampton inn on cardondelet (or something like that) its 3 blocks from bourbon st, free breakfast and wifi and its usually $99 during the week. however you will have to pay for parking because i think its impossible to find street parking in new orleans. that runs about $24 to valet at the hotel and i think its worth it

Just use Hotwire or Priceline name your own price and you can probably get a nice hotel for like $50 plus fees.

I've stayed in some incredibly nice places in various cities for ridiculously cheap thanks to that site.

Stayed at the Marriott on Canal St. last time. No complaints about the hotel, easy walk to anywhere you want to go in the Quarter (and just a block or two up from Harrah's).

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta... Very nice! They only charged us $80 for the room for one night, but this was January of 2003

YMMV

Where I stayed last time I was in The Big Easy...on St. Charles in the Garden District, not walking distance from the Quarter, but way cool as hell. A little pricey though.

there is a new orleans thread already somewhere with a lot of advice.

but ill reiterate

sonesta is great if youre staying for a week or something. but i went again in may and stayed right across canal at a Marriott renaissance for like $99 a night. new orleans needs money pretty bad, esp off season so you should find a good deal. anyway, this place was like a 10 min walk to the edge of the quarter or harrahs. perfect.

Embassy Suites is where I stayed. It was about $125, IIRC, and the free breakfast buffet was awesome.

It's right next to everything, in the middle of downtown, totally walkable. Didn't use a Taxi or the Car at all.

many of the hostels have free meals and it will be a much better experience. I would honestly pay more to stay at a hostel than some sketch non 300 dollar hotel.

what night are you looking for? Tonight there's Khris Royal and his band (funk/jazz) at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen St.

Thursday night has the Soul Rebels at Le Bon Temps, but is a bit of a drive the other way from the FQ

Friday night, you can't go wrong anywhere on Frenchmen

Nonetheless, you can do better than Bourbon St. for your live music fix

Will be there Friday night. We'll just walk around the French Quarter and see what's happening. Would love to hear some music and drink some.
