Hey fellas, I've done some searching on a few forums on converting my non-navi to navi...Just curious if anybody up here has done it...I'm not looking to use the factory nav-system, but I would like to keep my bluetooth, steering wheel controls and 6cd changer, etc...basically i want to add a nav system on top of what I got...also if you know of any better forums besides acurazine.com let me know... 10/19/2009 5:55:17 PM |

Well shoot, the easiest and cleanest way you're going to get this done without pulling your hair out is to buy a windshield-mounted GPS unit. A tom tom or something. 10/19/2009 5:58:53 PM |

doesn't pretty much every new top of the line in-dash GPS unit now have built in bluetooth and have the ability to interface with your steering wheel controls? I know eclipse made units that would do that years ago.
as far as connecting to your factory changer..meh, no idea. at worst you can spend a few hundred on a new one
and some quick googling makes me think it's a standard size..soo, no big deal to do.

Im sure the tom-tom unit is a better GPS then anything that comes in a BMW.10/19/2009 9:05:22 PM |

i've got a similar isuue. A couple of the buttons on my factory GPS unit have fallen off. I have a 2001 QX4. the problem is that the A/C controls are integrated into the GPS unit. Why...I don't know but they are. I need to find a replacement unit that can integrate into my steering wheel audio controls/cd changer controls and A/C controls. 10/21/2009 9:08:03 AM |

doesn't have to be rigged, just need some time to build a custom setup 10/26/2009 9:17:41 PM |

well i don't have the know how to do it myself and i'm sure a custom setup would be texa$ if i got it done at an audio place. right now the most viable option is to see if there is a plug-n-play option or get a stock unit from a junk yard if i can find one. 10/27/2009 8:29:51 AM |

i highly doubt there's any sort of plug and play option
junkyard is your best bet prolly 10/27/2009 12:48:03 PM |

exactly...OEM in-dash units are largely crap compared to a decent aftermarket unit (and not nearly as versatile)10/27/2009 1:21:50 PM |

The get add the oem setup you will need
-Nav screen, controls, radio face, trim pieces etc.... -main harness for cars with navi -antenna, dvd player
It would be cheaper to just trade the car in for one that has navi. 10/27/2009 3:20:09 PM |
