I don't think I'm going to pick it up anytime soon, just because it hit at a bad time...Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend are out, and Dragon Age is coming in a week. 10/25/2009 2:56:13 PM |

Level 13 solider so far
Having a good time, but for some reason took me a bit to get used to the shooting.
I will be glad when I find a really cool rare weapon though (love loot games) because most enemies that are only 1 level above you still pose a pretty strong threat, and if they are 2 above, watch out
Might try some co-op with a buddy at some point 10/25/2009 3:21:20 PM |

Ive been playing this on PS3. Lots of fun. Weapons are cool, looking for loot is just as addicting as I remember Diablo. This game has kept me from doing anything this weekend. 10/25/2009 8:01:02 PM |

I've read a couple reviews for it and I've seen a ton of Diablo references but no Hellgate references. How does this game compare? I thought Hellgate London was awful, this seems to be a little bit more fps based then diablo based like Hellgate was. 10/26/2009 6:27:59 AM |

^Curious about this also. The first thing I thought when I read IGN's review was Hellgate London, and I couldn't bring myself to finish that game. Kinda put a damper on their rave review.
Unreal Tournament had some mods that added RPG-like elements. Wonder if the game is similar to that?

I am very disappointed at the limited inventory space for a loot collection game.
By end game you have 42 slots, but to start you have TWELVE. Yes...TWELVE. And this includes any med kits that you are storing.10/26/2009 2:07:22 PM |

Level 25 Soldier. Playing with a Hunter and Siren that are both around the same level. If you happen to play with 2 other people and don't want to bother spawning 2 cars just stand in front of one and let them push you. Had some epic drive-bys with me getting pushed on the front taking out raiders.
Still need a few levels to play around with the trees. Once I do i'll have a lot of stopping power and be able to heal fiends by shooting them. Need to find an awesome rocket launcher for splash healing too. 10/26/2009 2:37:51 PM |

My buddy and I were co-op playing this weekend. We're pretty experienced video gamers, him very much so, and we found that the game oscillated wildly between "lots of fun" and "maddeningly difficult." To the point where we just turned it off and said "Fuck it."
My big complaint is shit respawning. You start at your save point, fight a horde of incredibly powerful enemies that kill you several times, and finally overpower them. Then you go a little farther and run into an even more difficult horde that kills you several times. By the time you get close to taking out that horde, the first one pops back to life, forcing you to fight it again, allowing the second group to respawn, and so on. 10/26/2009 3:40:03 PM |

I've been reading that people are having problems installing on Windows 7 and that there are issues with 191.x versions of the nvidia driver. That will make it easier to hold off for a while. 10/26/2009 4:22:13 PM |

my first purple item was a shotgun with a scope wtf
it does pretty much 1-hit kill anything my level though

^ I definitely spent most of the lower levels using a variety of weapons, but once I picked up the purple rifleman class mod @ lvl 19, I went combat rifles all the way and never looked back. (31% combat rifle damage, 3 assault skill, 2 overload skill, 2 impact skill.) 10/31/2009 1:53:06 PM |

I'm running the pc version with w7x64 fine.
Also, when you get to new haven. There is a red chest on the roof near scooter. If you jump up there, loot, and restart, you can farm money and items pretty quick. It doesn't really help you after level 27 or so, but its still great. 10/31/2009 3:17:13 PM |

If you are having that much trouble then you are trying to fight too high over your level.

Some friends and I bought 3 copies of this from Best Buy (buy 2 get 1 free) and we've been loving it so far. The gameplay is amazingly well polished... all the guns shoot just the way you'd expect them to (and it's amazing how many generic FPS games manage to get that part wrong), and everything feels very natural. And of course action/loot RPGs are great fun.
So far I've got a level 22 Soldier (medic spec) and a level 11-ish Berserker. Will probably end up playing through to 50 with every class at some point, anyway... the only thing stopping me is schoolwork

just fyi, there's a TON of auto-aim when you initially scope in with most guns (unless you're on PC, anyway... even then it might have that feature), and it helps a ton with sniping under fire. If you've got any decent sort of cover, just keep the reticle on them and when you zoom it should be on or just below their heads (and you've got a small time window in which it won't sway at all, too). Makes it really easy to get a kill in between getting hit.
Also, I played someone else's hunter for a bit and didn't really think that much of it, but after trying to snipe as another class I gained a lot of appreciation for their 1st-tier +accuracy/-sway skill. On other classes, I was having to time my shots based on when my reticle drifted over their face rather than based on the fire rate of my gun.
(XBL Gamertag: Dr Happiness, if anyone wants to co-op some time. Mention your TWW username or I probably won't add you)

Level 28 hunter - it's fairly easy going. I was having quite a bit of trouble with getting mobbed by the animal enemies until I got Sledge's shotgun. Still no cure for bosses though.
I also have a very nice shield that heals me, has a 41 for regen and protects for like 300 damage. That's probably what is keeping me in the game. I'll get hit while sniping but it's no big deal. 11/2/2009 9:23:09 PM |

You'll get some pretty ridiculous gear once you hit the quests related to Old Haven. I'm rocking a green shield that takes 500 damage with a recharge rate of 63. I actually went in @ level 28 and left @ lvl 30, before completing the 2 quests I had there. Fighting the Crimson Lance mobs have restored the element of challenge to the game. 11/2/2009 9:28:08 PM |

Quote : | "The first and foremost effective method of farming comes from an area known as "Crimson Fastness", one of the final areas before the end of the game. Crimson Fastness holds the most effective farming method in Borderlands. Once players have rescued the Claptrap near the entrance, they gain access to two high end chests and two lockers containing high level equipment and upgrades. Close to this, they can gain access to a third high-end chest as well as the loot from enemies along the two room run. Players then simply exit the game from the menu and load it back up again which allows the chests to respawn and restock with different items. Simply sell this loot to the vending machines directly in front of the spawn point, rinse and repeat for the most effective farming method in the game which can gain you upwards and over $100,000 per run.
The second farming method is also suitable for lower level players as well as high level players. As you progress onward with the main missions, you will gain access to an area called "Old Haven". Old Haven is the first area in which players will encounter tactful enemies known as the Crimson Lance. The Crimson Lance are heavily equipped and drop expensive, rare and elusive equipment in the masses which can be sold to nearby vending machines for hefty profit. The area also contains numerous high end chests for the same effect and what stands out about Old Haven is the fact that the enemies respawn after shorter amounts of time giving a potentially unlimited farming opportunity.
One of the most effective methods of farming comes from co-operative gameplay. If players have friends who are at higher ends of the game or are on their second play through, they can simply hop into their game to reap the rewards of not only experience, but also for farming the vast amounts of cash and rare items that can only come from higher ends of the game and on the second play through. This method is very effective especially for players of the lower level who are simply looking for a way to make a quick buck, but also for high level players who are gearing up to gain access to higher level equipment and upgrades in preparation for their second play through or in anticipation of the upcoming downloadable content." |
plus there are plenty of videos on youtube of borderlands farming...just google

I'm surprised it's not a wash
I know the more players in a game, the more creatures that spawn, but I thought all experience was split up between the characters.
Instead of 1 creature for 10 exp, there were 5 for 2 exp each.
I dunno though, I have yet to play any co-op. 11/4/2009 8:21:03 AM |
jbtilley All American 12797 Posts user info edit post |
I was under the impression that the enemies were tougher in multiplayer games, meaning they had higher levels which translates to more experience given.
So in your example it wouldn't be 5 for 2 exp each, it would be 5 for 15 exp each. I'm not sure how they divvy up the experience either. 11/4/2009 8:58:12 AM |

You can increase the number of items you carry by repairing 'claptraps'. Claptraps are those annoying boxy robots. Progressing through the game will take you past several claptraps that are broken down. They give quests to repair them. They'll give you an item that increases your backpack size once you find the repair kit / finish the quest.
Something I don't quite understand. They give you an item that increases your backpack size as a quest reward. You have to manually select the item to get the benefit. I don't see why that wasn't an automatic thing. Maybe for people that want to buy/sell/trade the item?? 11/4/2009 9:39:29 AM |
leftyisreal All American 2145 Posts user info edit post |
also, hang around the claptraps when you rescue them. often times afterwards they will walk over and open a locked door or something to get you some more loot. 11/4/2009 9:59:45 AM |
Drovkin All American 8438 Posts user info edit post |
^ I don't understand that either. Especially since it can push you over the limit (could have 13/12 items, one being your backpack upgrade) 11/4/2009 10:00:52 AM |
