On boot how many run on your work computer (this is without you starting anything)

Currently Im at 74, of which one is an optional piece of software.

Why does this matter at all? I have no idea, I haven't rebooted my computer in probably 2 months.

the machine I do most of my work on has 615 processes running on it right now

Windows laptop: 114 (maybe 5-10 of those come from me being lazy and putting the program in the Startup folder)
Linux VMs: 200+
AIX lab server: I really don't want to find out

i think my home computer (Vista 64bit) has around 70 which amazes me because i try to keep it's startup to a minimum and barely run any 3rd party software

wrong. a 64 bit OS maxes out at 64 processes, so you are obviously either lying or can't count.

I'm just tryign to figure out if were the only ones who can make a dual core laptop with 2gb of ram (win xp) seem like a pentium 2 running xp.

Why would I lie to be on the high side? Maybe if I wanted to be on the low side. Anyways, earlier I had just booted and was browsing the internets when I came across this thread and it said I had 66 processes - 1 for IE for typing what I did earlier = 65. I did forget that outlook is in the startup folder so I am at 64.

after installation of 7 ultimate x64 and two optional software installs: 42 processes and 841MB memory in use

I just kicked off around 2300 processes

cp a new/a &
cp b new/b &
etc... 2300 times
