Where we live you can't park on the street during the week. Our house has one parking spot, the neighbor's house has one parking spot, and then there is an easement between the two houses which is used as a parking spot. The neighbor regularly parks in the easement between our homes, leaving the space in front her home vacant. It has been brought to her attention that it would be nice if she used her parking spot during times when street parking isn't permitted. We have 3 people and 3 vehicles, the neighbor has one vehicle and lives alone. It is clearly her right to park in the easement and not her problem that we have more people and vehicles. However, it seems pretty inconsiderate to, in essence, take up two spaces when parking is already limited. The question is would is would you find it irritating that she takes a shared space and leaves her own empty and also would you push the issue that should make an effort to park in her own space?

Additional details: The neighbor is a renter and her preference to park has to do with her difficulty to back her car out of/in to the space that is in front of her house. The couple who own the home lived next door to us for a few years, they just moved out a few months ago after buying a bigger home. Prior to the tenet moving in, we never had a problem, whoever got there first had the space. So additionally, would you also take the issue to the person's landlord?

What is your neighbor's reaction when you bring it to her attention??

If I were you, I would do two things:

1) Try and keep your car or one of your roommate's cars there at all times. If you're parked there and you are about to leave, have one of your roommates move their car and park in that place immediately. If you can get her parking in her allotted space on a consistent basis, maybe she'll get use to it, decide not to be a bitch, and do it all the time.

2) Go to the landlord. No need to explanation here. Just tell the landlords to be nice in requesting her to use her own driveway.

All of this won't matter if she is stubborn and a bitch about it. I would just try and be as nice as possible to her. Being difficult isn't going to help at all.

she isn't stubborn or a bitch, she just isn't very bright. When we brought it up she said she was sorry and it was just really hard to park in her parking spot and she'll try and remember. We do try to keep one of our cars in that parking spots though.

^ & ^^ when she does park in the easement she parks in the middle of it, thus blocking her parking spot as well (her driveway is off the easement).

Or park behind her in the easement space and say you are both entitled to park there and it is her problem on how to get out of the current spot.

What in the hell is going on here? Bake her some cookies and go talk to her. She will understand if she is a normal human being. If she isn't then punch her.

does the property belong to the house you live in and the neighbor has an easement to access the site, or is it vice versa? Or is the parking spot split between the two lots and there is a driveway easement for both properties down the joint land?

clearly, the solution is ti build a second level above your parking spot that you can drive a second car up onto... essentially, a bunk parking spot. These are quite common in NYC.

The obvious solution is to kill her and bury her body in a shallow grave in her own backyard.

Fake parking tickets?

Sounds like youve talked to her. Talk to the landlord now.

Why is it illegal to park weekdays? Id talk to the city on this. Unless its a serious safety issue, if tis a controlling overflow parking, ask for the street to be permitted. Raleigh does this esp north of campus and I think it works out great.

Remember that tailgate where those two dudes got shot? Wasn't that over a parking space issue?

Can't, its not that long especially when she parks in the middle of it

Tell her she can have the easement if she'll just pull far enough forward to open up her own parking space; thereby making her parking space the "optional" one for either unit. She gets her easy to exit space and you get another open space. You both win, but she thinks she won because she gets her easy-to-access space all the time.

Dude you gotta bite the bullet. Girls are horrible at driving/parking and its always better for them to be safe than sorry. Sucks.
