Carl Sagan Day was Saturday, November 7 and a few of us wanted to celebrate the life of one of the 20th century's greatest science writers by watching his seminal TV series on life, the universe, and everything (with apologies to Douglas Adams), Cosmos. Here is some background from Wikipedia U.:

"The series was first broadcast by the Public Broadcasting Service in 1980, and was the most widely watched series in the history of American public television until The Civil War (1990). As of 2009, it is still the most widely watched PBS series in the world. It won an Emmy and a Peabody Award and has since been broadcast in more than 60 countries and seen by over 500 million people."

We have Mann 216 reserved for 6 PM of this Friday, November 13 for the screening. The plan is to watch the 1st episode and perhaps the 2nd if people are up for it (each is an hour). We can make future plans for the other episodes as well if people are interested. If you're interested in astronomy, cosmology, or the origins of life they are a must see.

Please, post a reply if you are planning on attending, but feel free to show up even if you forget.

Thanks.

If by nerdy you mean awesome then I totally agree. Seriously, who doesn't like astronomy?

I love Carl Sagan, but this would be a better activity for, say, Tuesday night, not Friday.

It is early Friday evening. We should be done around 8. Will that really interfere with your late night plans?
