Want to get a mole removed with no health insurance, anyone know of a good place that'll keep the cost down?

aesthetics. it's on my face, and when i was younger it was kinda cute. i've worn a beard for the last several years though so it's never really even been an issue, but i've noticed that it is very gradually growing in size. it's big enough now that it may be embarrassing if i ever decided to shave but i'm more worried about why it's growing, albeit very slowly. figure it's a win-win if i just get rid of it.


thanks hooksaw, any idea on ballpark pricing? i'm more interested in a quality procedure than getting it done dirt cheap, but i'm not rich and i'm not opposed to saving some money.

If it's growing you really might want to think about having a biopsy done.
Get health insurance for two months, have it removed in that time, have it biopsied, and if it isn't cancerous cancel the insurance. If it is cancerous you'll be really glad you have insurance.

That's my thought on it anyway.

Maybe for your work plan; but I'm pretty sure you can take out a BCBSNC plan, wait for it to come into effect, and then cancel at any time.

I've done this several times.

you can find sterilized disposable scalpels on the net. but the first time
I just sterilized a fresh exacto blade with a lighter.
Have a stiptic pencil handy because it will bleed a lot, and lots of band aids.
If the mole is someplace like close to your mouth where the skin flexes a lot it will take longer to stop bleeding.

I also used a pair of hemostats to grab hold of the mole.
had me a few bourbons and zip...

I've had one mole on my face removed twice and another bigger one removed once.

The original doctor was not a cosmetic surgeon, just a pediatrician, and cut the thing off flatly with my skin. It was right on the top of my upper lip and bothered me when I played trombone in HS. That one eventually grew back up again, as he apparently didn't get it all. He didn't touch the other one that was on my temple saying that the scar would be bigger than the mole itself.

I then went to a dermatologist last year and had the one that regrew looked at again. She said that she could remove them both completely and the scar would be flesh colored and imperceptible, especially in comparison to a dark mole. She did the disposable razor and just dug into the skin a litle bit instead of just cutting them flat. They both bled pretty bad and the one above my lip really bothered me for a while. But once it got all healed up and the scab fell off, it was just pink skin under both. So both moles are gone and you can't even see a scar on either. Much happier now!

well i wish i had such good luck, i have two giant scars on my chest and back from a dermatologist removing circular moles and leaving large craters AND i she didnt use enough numbing agent and i felt her removing my flesh

i also have a giant scar from a mole being removed. i had it done at ft. bragg and had the sutures removed at campus health and the doctor was like wtf did they do?! apparently it was a bad stitch-up job.

the numbing needle hurt more than anything else. i watched them take a big bloody chunk out of my thigh and then decided i didn't need to watch.

Go to Dr. Kulp in Cary. He did a great job with mine that was on my face and you can't tell it was there. BTW the online reviewers are a bunch of pussys who don't have patience, and say he is "insensitive". Bullshit. He get's the job done and tells you what you need to know.

if it's a big mole on your face, there's a good chance that the mole is deep and would have to be punched out. The scar is going to be much worse than the mole. If it's not cancerous, then leave it alone. I have a mole on my face that makes shaving suck, but this is the advice I got from two different doctors.

I've removed a few on myself for cosmetic reasons. You just have to take plenty of skin underneath and around it(45 angle) to prevent it growing back. Bleeds like hell.

Those punch biopsies are no joke. Those fuckers drill a well like they're looking for water or something.

My son had three punch biopsies last year to examine the progression of a rash. It looks awful and it is hard to watch, but he reacted to the injection far more than the actual biopsy. They do a pretty good job of numbing you up before they do it. Two of the sites healed extremely well and there is hardly a noticeable scar at this point. But one of the biopsies was done while he was on steroids and left fairly visible scarring.

i had a punch biopsy done once on my thigh to get a tissue sample for something. in my years i have broken things and torn stuff and had major surgery but nothing compares to how much that fucking punch biopsy hurt.

i'll add to the list of people who have had one removed and has an ugly scar. mine is on my arm so it stretched out and is round about the size of a pencil eraser. had it removed a year ago because the biopsy was "abnormal" and it is still bright red. every mole i've ever had biopsied (scraped off) has grown back. i'm sure there are doctors out there who can remove things without it scarring badly, but after seeing what this one looks like there is no way i'd let them come near my face.

i've had several moles removed due to the physician thinking they could have been cancerous...thank God they were not.

Anyways, with 2 out of the 3 moles i had removed, i had stitches put in place aftewards. With those scars, they ended up being flesh colored and flat (not too large). However, for the one mole I had removed that did NOT have a stitch put in place after removal, that scar ended up being a little more raised (but still flesh colored) and I felt quite self conscious about it for awhile. i had health insurance and was about 11-12 at the time of the removal, so i have no idea what it would have cost.
