11/19/2009 8:21:16 AM

11/19/2009 8:24:11 AM
Depends on the surgery.Orthopedic = Get back to work.Open heart = I'd give him a day or two.
11/19/2009 8:34:07 AM
that pussy was probably getting vasectomy

11/19/2009 9:19:59 AM
I'd say don't be "that guy" but kinda hard when your boss is telling you to.I had just gotten out of the hospital from getting my appendix taken out with all kinds of stupid complications from it, had my (now fired) manager call me and yell at me that I didn't do this or that before I left.. I drove myself to the emergency room after leaving work to go to urgent care for a fever and so I didn't get back to work the same day. The people at urgent care told me I needed to get to the ER because it was about to rupture. She complained about how she was having to cover for me, told me to "enjoy your little vacation" and hung up. Cunt.
11/19/2009 9:28:03 AM
ha damn. I bear responsibility in this scheduling mishap, just fucking sucks.
11/19/2009 9:48:34 AM
i tried to call in to check on things at work after i had a bone graph done (the same day i think).apparently i was so doped up on meds they couldn't understand a word i said

would a phone call be more conducive? Then they wouldn't have to hobble over to a computer and it would be quicker maybe?
11/19/2009 10:00:24 AM
they have internet access in the hospital now, BigBlueRam was posting up after all 47 surgeries on his leg[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 10:06 AM. Reason : wakemed i think]
11/19/2009 10:05:42 AM
I think it's borderline illegal to force someone to work when they are physically unhealthy. sending an email would only put it in writing.
11/19/2009 10:21:38 AM
^bah who cares, we're a bunch of good ol' boys workin' for a livin'If he doesnt get back with me, so be it. if he does, awesome.btw he has a blackberry
11/19/2009 10:27:31 AM
I got a really bad case of the flu a couple years ago and had to take a week off of work, using sick time that I earned. My boss called me 2 days in and told me he wanted me to write up a "business plan" explaining how I was going to make up for the sales i might have lost during that week, and to e-mail it to him right away.I e-mailed him my resignation letter instead.
11/19/2009 10:32:03 AM
11/19/2009 10:49:53 AM
^ i found that amusing as well.

just send it to him. if he doesnt respond then its not on you. and if he responds with "uh i just had surgery and dont know" then say, "oh my gosh, i didnt know. hope you feel better soon and get me the information whenever you feel good enough to do so"
11/19/2009 11:23:55 AM
11/19/2009 11:25:07 AM
let's think about the ramifications of demanding someone who just had surgery to come into work ASAPwhat if they suffer a stroke while at the workplace, resulting in further medical complications? what if they fall and hurt themselves on company property? what if they die?why risk it?if you want a legal source, I guess I could refer you to the FMLA, which in the least entitles an employee who is unwell to take unpaid leavehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_and_Medical_Leave_Act_of_1993[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 11:31 AM. sending an e-mail to someone that is out on sick leave is FAR from forcing them to workhere is the key part:
11/19/2009 11:28:19 AM
I'm sure they've been getting spam email the entire time
11/19/2009 11:29:10 AM
^^ he posted that after I did. his first post said "expected". when my boss "expects" something of me it implies that I should do it ASAP.
11/19/2009 11:30:26 AM
Are you honestly trying to equate sending a sick employee an e-mail to forcing an employee to come into work when they are sick? Now if the e-mail states "come into work or you're fired", then you might have a leg to stand on.[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 11:34 AM. Reason : a]
11/19/2009 11:33:11 AM
I implied that hurley's intent from the get-go was to get surgery employee back to work, that's all I am honestly equating home slice
11/19/2009 11:34:08 AM
is it raining in raleigh today?
11/19/2009 11:34:20 AM
He never mentioned the intention of the e-mail. What makes you think the intention of said e-mail was to get the employee to come back to work?
11/19/2009 11:34:51 AM
gee, I don't know. why do people who work together send work emails to coworkers? I don't think there'd be a TWW thread-worthy moral dilemma if he was asking him how the surgery went.[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 11:36 AM. Reason : .]

I work from home all the time, and I check my work e-mails pretty much all day long, regardless of where I am.And even if he was trying to get him to come into the office, why would it be so bad? He doesn't EXPECT him to come in, but maybe the e-mail could be worded like this: "Hey buddy, hope you're feeling better. If you feel up to it, we could really use you around the office for a couple hours today. If not, I understand."
11/19/2009 11:37:17 AM
11/19/2009 11:39:02 AM
it was never really open to begin withsending e-mails to workers who are off for whatever reason is pretty much commonplace in most office settings.[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 11:40 AM. Reason : a]

the guy is an outside vendor to our company, btw. I knew ahead of time that he was having surgery, and well-wished him in my email. Our schedule changed, so the urgency is no longer necessary... BUT we can continue this pissing match, because I've never had my name mentioned this many times in a thread before

expecting them to respond, and blowing the fuck up if they don't are 2 entirely different thingsmaybe he just expects the guy to respond because this guy has always responded to similar e-mails in the past[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 11:43 AM. Reason : a]

well, we can make lots of hypotheticals. I would just be uncomfortable if I casually, but clearly, implied that an employee who had surgery ought to be back working the day after their surgery, that's all.
11/19/2009 11:45:11 AM
^agreed.
