The article doesn't give a ton of info unfortunately. The spokesperson for State says the spring rankings are more accurate, but I don't know why the same wouldn't be said for the other schools in the conference.

I know we've had players like Evtimov, and more recenlty Baker (woo hoo the NCAA gave him another year!) who have had injuries that impacted their playing careers, but is Ilian Evtimov singlehandedly dragging down our bball ratings?

transfers and kids leaving the program in general for what ever reason can effect the rating

With Amato, I am not all that surprised. We had a decent number of guys go pro early and no one ever accused a lot of our football players of being geniuses

A little more surprised with Sendek. My question is how do transfers factor into this? What if a guy leaves State and graduates from another school? Does that count against us? We had a few of those as well as a few early entries into the NBA.

^ok, if transfers hurt it then i can understand. 45% still seems low to me

Why do people even pay attention to this shit? The whole "student athelete" thing is a joke (for football and basketball anyway) in EVERY school, and hardly anyone (who's good) stays the whole four years. I would think a high graduation rate would be more of a novelty than than something that's expected.

You quoted information about the federal rate. The next paragraph after your quote describes the NCAA's new alternative (GSR). The numbers at the start of the thread are based on the GSR, not the federal rate. Here's a bit from that next paragraph:

Clearly, the method used is incorrect, b/c as we all know, Herb Sendek is a quality basketball coach and human being and would NEVER settle for horrible academic performance. The N&O, ESPN and Gregg Doyel would have me believe no different.
