This interview was very interesting to me. Jon Stewart proved he's not giving the Democratic Party a free pass. Biden made a few excuses and pointed a few fingers, but for the most part he agreed that the Dems in congress aren't getting the job done right now.

in before hacksaw makes all sorts of wild accusations about Biden/Obama/Democrats, using Biden's words (probably taken out of context).

he doesn't need to watch the interview to be secure in his beliefs that he knows exactly how it went.

Stewart said something along the lines of when the republicans had majority, they got through votes and got things done, but the Democrats have majority and still seem like they are drowning

it was a fair statement, and Biden didn't disagree

no one said it was even, i'm just saying he's not letting them slide.

It was a lot better than listening to Glenn Beck tell me what the Pilgrams would do if they were here today

nah his brand of commentary has never really done well. Its just that people who care if a person is trustworthy or not believe he tells the truth as he sees it. and thats really fucking rare no matter the political affiliation

If he really is "telling the truth as he sees it", he's insane, and you're insane for believing it.

Frothy-mouthed populism has always done well.

And Beck isn't even all that tight-lipped over his financial motivations. It's a little startling to hear how frankly he discusses book sales and such.

Read this interview he had with Coulter. Half of it was just the two of them discussing business:

Jon didn't give Biden a free pass, but the bias was still pretty evident. His major complaint, that the Democrats couldn't push through their agenda, was as much an assault on the Republicans as anything. With those statements Jon implicitly agreed with Obama's agenda.

At least its bias without demagoguery.

I really wish there was a similar show with a Republican bias.

OH NO. NOT BUSINESS

ok he's a nutcase, those fruity charts he puts up linking things all over the place look like a fucking flat-earth submission. But the point was that he is being truthful. You'd have to be a little different yourself to think otherwise based on the fact that he doesn't hide the fact that he's ..what? getting paid? OMG STOP THE PRESSES

It’s impossible primarily because republicans don’t have a sense of humor, and also because their social conservative stance has no rational basis.

it could happen though with a fiscally conservative, socially moderate/liberal host, but who this person is, and what network would harbor them is a different story.

He's half right. Republicans do not have a good sense of humor. I've counted myself a Republican since I knew there was such a thing and I acknowledge this. It's one of the reasons I generally can't stand to socialize with them, and my friends are almost to a man liberal or apolitical.

oh so thats why the entire populace fearfully watches every word it says, not because they'll be Kramered, but because republicans wont find it funny

i don't feel the need to watch every word i say. mostly because i'm not a racist.

[Edited on December 1, 2009 at 2:09 AM. Reason : at least not offensively racist. everyone is racist to SOME degree.]

There couldn't be a 'republican' version of the daily show because republicans wouldn't buy it as being conservative and therefore assume it was liberal. Think about it for a second, how could you be right wing and funny at the same time without being insanely insulting? At best, the show would come off as a stiff trying to make fun of the cool kids and before you get on about white knighting what's cool and what isn't, look up the definition of the word conservative.

Furthermore, while Nancy Pelosi probably could provide a plethora of "im a hag" type of jokes, nothing, nothing tops bible belt republicans (and Democrats, there are just more Republicans) for sure O.o moments.

I've actually warmed up to O'Reilly, having tuned in to a few beck and hannity programs recently. That O'Reilly is tolerable and seems mostly reasonable is a testament to how batshit insane hannity and beck are.

There's plenty of good conservative comedy. Wall Street Journal's opinionpage.com has a great daily blog called Best of the Web that lampoons liberals in the same spirit as the Daily Show, but does it in a much more intelligent fashion.

I tried reading some of "Best of the Web" entries, but it takes itself way too seriously to be compared to the Daily Show. Beyond the punchy titles, it's still a conservative spin-blog: its first intention is to deliver political commentary with humor as a side-attraction, while the Daily Show makes humor the priority even if it's self-deprecating.
