Anyone else like this show? I watch it every time I get the chance, its usually good for a few laughs, and its cool to see how much some stuff is worth. Starts up again Monday at 9 on the History Channel.

Ive just watched 4-5 episodes for the first time since they are pushing the hell out of it.

I think its pretty entertaining. I would love to actually know how much money those guys make. I also think it is funny how they portray everyone coming in there to not have some kind of problem. Seriously, who sells thier car, or $20,000 boat at a pawn shop, unless they need the cash fast.

It would be more interesting if these people told thier stories on why they wanna sell (its vegas, im sure some of them have to be interesting).

about 90% of the people selling or pawning give the reason why they are there

because about 90% of the time the damn dude asks why they are selling/pawning

anyways, i watch the show because it is funny as hell when theses dudes find out they got hosed overseas when they try to bring their worthless crap to the pawn shop

its also interesting how many experts this guy knows and has on speed dial

I did enjoy the guy that bought the "collectible" gun, only to find out it was fake, that was awesome.

functioning cannon from the 1890s...i laughed when the dude said he bought it for 20k and I cried when they offered him 30k for it.

that dude with the glass sword said he spent 2-3 years making it. he was really lowballing himself asking for just 700 for it. they still turned him down and made him look like a wierdo. lol

They've been doing this since the late 80's I think. I'd be surprised if they didn't have lots of expert connections. The number of people that walk into pawn shops ever year is huge. Let alone one in Vegas and now one that's been on tv.

i, too, just discovered this the other day. they had a marathon and we got stuck watching like 3-4 episodes in a row. it's neat just to see what people bring in. that thing with the boat was pretty funny.

We need to remember there is a show involved. He probably does not call in as many experts normally as he does when the camera is rolling. Hell, he probably never called in experts, since experts usually demand payment for their time. While he probably knew these people, it is the show's producers paying for their on-camera expertise.

Also, if he did make use of one of his friends for a buy when the camera is not there, he would probably keep any information provided to himself. If you walk in expecting to get $200, why should he tell you it is worth two grand? Yes, he should pay a fair price or risk losing a customer that later feels ripped off, but you should not walk out with as much as someone that walked in knowing what it was worth.

^ For all we know it's all TV setup. The "expert" could brief the pawn shop guy first and then they put on a show for the cameras after that to make us think otherwise.

I love the show, and its great entertainment. Its one of the very few shows that pisses me off when I forget to DVR it. Yes I know DVR can record it auto, but I have TONS of shit I record, and there are tons of conflicts. Anyway, Its interesting and is somewhat believable, but a lot of the stuff just makes me wonder....

Most people dont pawn a motorcycle or car. Especially the ones they have on this show. You put it on CraigsList or something and get more money. Like the guy with the Shelby Cobra body he found in a storage shed. They said it was worth $60k or so, he sold it to them for around 30k. I mean I assume these people are DESPERATE for money, but they don't seem like. If someone I was trying to pawn something to had an expert with them that told me it was worth $60k I would not sell it for anything less than $40k or something, and in all likely hood I would just sell it on my own for $50k+

I'm not trying to nit pick, but they bring in these so called experts in front of the buyer and seller and tell the worth of the item, which makes NO sense. There is no way as a pawn guy you are going to have the guy trying to sell you his item in the same room with the guy who is going to tell him what its worth.

I am sure they have an agreement before this or something, but its just annoying to the smart TV viewer. Its SO obvious that something is going on behind the scenes, which I am ok with, I just wish they would be more upfront about it so it wasnt so annoying.

He pays the experts 50 bucks a pop to come in and look at items for him. When you are buying potentially valuable merchandise, 50 bucks is a drop in the bucket to make sure you get what you pay for. Any dealer in high end merchandise has to do their homework or they wouldn't be in business very long. I highly doubt the expert portion of the show has anything to with the TV show. The guy he calls on for guns and also cowboy related shit have both mentioned working with the pawn shop for years and years.

The 17th century musketoon has to be the most badass item I have seen on this show.

The one episode of the show I watched, the one where they bought a musket, was interesting but also made me a lot.

Good: valuation of the gun, history of it, bartering down the owner

Bad: comic relief filler. The guys aren't funny. They're just painfully ugly. Stick to more of the good stuff and maybe I'd watch again.

The best part is when Rick is a smartass when some moron tries to pawn something. Expert comes in and appraises an item, says its worth $3000 and the person selling wants $3000 for it. They obviously have NO clue how pawn shops operate and Rick reminds them pretty quick lol.
