My gf's getting married next year and she wants to take a cruise to Cozumel for her bachelorette party. It's a 4-night cruise and costs $998, which, IMO, is a lot to pay for a bachelorette party (at least one that doesn't involve Vegas). I budgeted for $250 to $500.Is $1,000 a normal bach party budget? Maybe I'm just out-of-touch.

so wait. she wants everyone going to drop a G for a 4 day cruise in honor of her making a huge mistake?sounds pretty fucked up to me
12/2/2009 9:47:17 AM
at least she isn't springing it on you at the last minute
12/2/2009 9:47:18 AM
i, too, am wondering about this.as i am in the same position.
12/2/2009 9:47:25 AM
that's a lot of fucking money - especially when you factor in other money that you'll be spending on the actual wedding (assuming that you're a bridesmaid)
12/2/2009 9:47:40 AM
^^ Where does your friend want to go?I wouldn't mind dropping a grand on a trip to Vegas. But Cozumel can be done way cheap. 1k is a LOT for a cruise to Cozumel.^ And I'm not a bridesmaid. The bride's high school friends are bridesmaids. I'm just one of her best gfs in FL. We've only been good friends for a couple of years.[Edited on December 2, 2009 at 9:49 AM. Reason : .]

convince her to go on a cheaper cruise. you can get on a good boat for a 4 nighter for way cheaper than that. maybe not cozumel but definitely somewhere in the Caribbean (sp? fuck it)what time of year next year?
12/2/2009 9:49:16 AM
oh my...I would never expect my ladies to pay that. *Side Note* I also would not make them spend a shit load on their dresses either, especially if I could not pay for them.
12/2/2009 9:49:26 AM
Lucy, I thought you were ballin out of control. This should be of no consequence to someone whose life is as awesome as you say yours is.
12/2/2009 9:50:24 AM
It's MLK wknd, hence the higher price point. But with so many travel deals to be had right now, it seems silly to blow a grand on Cozumel.^ IMO, 1k is an inappropriate amount for this situation.[Edited on December 2, 2009 at 9:51 AM. Reason : .]

I think destination bachelorette/bachelor parties are becoming pretty common. Sometimes I don't think the people getting married really think about the fact that not everyone can afford/justify a trip like that. I guess you just have to be frank and say you weren't expecting something to cost that much and it puts you in a pinch and see what she says.
12/2/2009 9:51:43 AM
yeah cozumel isnt really all that great. unless you are diving....
12/2/2009 9:51:48 AM
I've never heard of a bachelorette party being that high My best friend's party was just a sex toy party soooo I guess she was a super cheap ass Everyone brought some form of beer or liquor and we just got drunk at her place with (fake) penises on our heads.Ask her to spot you the money and see what she says.
12/2/2009 9:52:17 AM
I guess I can strip for her at a discounted rate. SIGH.... Let me know when "Officer" God needs to show up about a "noise violation... in my pants."

12/2/2009 9:52:51 AM
Im in two weddings next year and knew there would be a cost for dresses, ect but didn't even consider a baccalaureate party budgetyou now have me scurd
12/2/2009 9:54:58 AM
^^^ You're more than welcome to do that, Gronke. It would be entertaining! ^^ Bingo. Her future hubby makes ~$200k in medical device sales. And she makes about $100k at her job. I think they sometimes forget that most 20-somethings aren't pulling in $300k per year. ^ See, I've never done a bachelorette party with this kind of budget. Most of my gfs' parties have been under $200. You prob don't have too much to worry about, particularly if they are young brides.[Edited on December 2, 2009 at 9:58 AM. Reason : .]
12/2/2009 9:55:11 AM
Damn son.. I'm going into the wrong field
12/2/2009 9:56:14 AM
I heard there was an earthquake/tsunami scheduled to rip through the Caribbean over MLK weekend.
12/2/2009 9:57:49 AM
Maybe suggest something else as a cheaper alternative. You're probably just going to get wasted and make bad decisions, and you can do that anywhere ... no need to be in Cozumel.
12/2/2009 9:59:15 AM
I can get wasted and make bad decisions without leaving my house! And for much less than 1k! You're onto something.
12/2/2009 10:03:15 AM
yeah, so far one of them has been really good in considering cost and gave us two options of the brides maids dresses (a cheaper dress or more expensive j.crew dress that we can totally wear again) if we want our hair done, ect. But still, with the dress, alterations, shoes, and wedding present I'm already invested some $300+ into the wedding, I don't and won't have another $200 to spend on going out celebrating.[Edited on December 2, 2009 at 10:14 AM. 12/2/2009 10:04:02 AM
1k?!?!?! That bitch is crazy!!
12/2/2009 10:05:03 AM
i know that if/when i get married - none of this high dollar bullshit..... i will not do that to my friends that's for sure.
12/2/2009 10:05:58 AM
I've always operated under the premise that an appropriate amount to expect someone to play is to take what they would typically spend on an action packed weekend night out and double it...for me thats about 3-400Once you get higher that, it becomes more of a burden for some people than a treat
12/2/2009 10:06:05 AM
I will charter out my sailboat and "captain's services" for half that.It will take us a bit longer to get to Cozumel than that, though. There is sleeping room for six, but unfortunately only one bathroom, and it's a bit cramped. The upside will be the 24-hour open bar with top-shelf liquors and awesome food by yours truly. And "captain's services"...
12/2/2009 10:07:19 AM
12/2/2009 10:07:38 AM
bc the bride prolly didnt shop around at all since she doesnt really care about how much it costs.[Edited on December 2, 2009 at 10:08 AM. Reason : also depends a lot on what time of year it is]
12/2/2009 10:08:14 AM
12/2/2009 10:08:36 AM
you have to have a penis cake, thats like standard operating procedurebonus points if it has red velvet veins
12/2/2009 10:10:14 AM
12/2/2009 10:13:09 AM
I would like to inquire further about captain's services. Do I need to bring the stripper pole?
12/2/2009 10:13:50 AM
To let you know about the stripper pole...none needed. Not when you have a 30' mast on the deck. A sailboat is a stripper's wet dream...The big thing is I need to get said boat to Port Canaveral first. It sits in Oriental, lol.Oh...here's your captain:
12/2/2009 10:17:58 AM
i'm pretty sure you just need to bring your vagina
12/2/2009 10:19:54 AM
if theyre makin 300k a yr whats it to them to drop like 10G's on the cruise. lulz bridecanpay
12/2/2009 10:21:36 AM
High and mighty wannabe brides ITT
12/2/2009 10:23:54 AM
That's way too much, if anything, they are out of touch.Agree with Slave, around 400 sounds reasonable.
12/2/2009 10:27:38 AM
ahh yes, precisely what i'd want in a bachelorette partyhave half the party seasick
12/2/2009 10:27:48 AM
12/2/2009 10:32:52 AM
The one way to justify a higher price tag is to combine a bachelor party with something else, say someone's 30th birthday or a fantasy football draft, or maybe a tupperware social for you ladies
12/2/2009 10:37:38 AM
12/2/2009 10:39:56 AM
Ooh! Tupperware!Maybe we can bring in an Amway rep as well. That would rock!
12/2/2009 10:41:05 AM
chicks i know know from UCF were definitely high maintenancethey have no concept of what others do or makebut i did drop a little over a G on the last bachelor party i went on, 4 days playing golf in myrtle beachbut that was for everything, not just the room and getting therei say if you dont know this chick that well and aren't even in the wedding, it's okay to blow it off for cheaper fun
12/2/2009 10:59:47 AM
^ I didn't realize that a weekend in Myrtle could run that much! Unless you spent the weekend in the champagne room. BTW, if you golf, you should join me and Buck for cheap golf at Knight's Play over Christmas. UPDATE: Apparently, the bride-to-be misread the cruise details and thought it was $998pp, which is what she told the rest of us. Turns out, it's $998 for the room, split between 3 people. Critical reading skills! I just assumed it was that $$$ bc it's a holiday weekend and she had selected a special package.Panic over! But I'm still somewhat appalled that she thought $1k was reasonable for a bachelorette cruise.
12/2/2009 11:22:54 AM
I can shake each one of my buttocks independently of the other.
12/2/2009 11:24:33 AM
definitely not worth it for a chic i would describe as
12/2/2009 11:28:51 AM
we shall golf at christmas time
12/2/2009 11:34:41 AM
^^ There are only 3 girls (including bride) going on the trip. She and I are both relatively new to Florida. Her close gfs/bridesmaids are spending a ton to come to the wedding, so they can't make it to the bach party. We're extremely close. Just not childhood friends.^
12/2/2009 11:45:44 AM
extremely close meaning when you are drunk you "accidentally" make out?
12/2/2009 11:55:58 AM
Yes, tell us more
