A band called Hi-Five is playing at a New Year's Eve event in Greensboro. I've never heard of them and can't find much about them online since there are several bands with similar names. Anyone heard of them? What kind of music do they play?

If you've never heard of them, they probably aren't worth seeing. The fact that they're playing at a New Year's event, especially in Greensboro, also suggests that they aren't worth seeing.

^^They are more than likely garbage, but I'll disagree with those things. There are plenty of bands I've never heard of that I've seen live and enjoyed.

And just because they aren't playing some illustrious venue like the Pour House or Berkeley Cafe doesn't mean they are dogshit. Everyone has to start somewhere. Given your knowledge of music trivia, I'm sure you're aware of the Beatles' less-than-glamorous early days where they performed for 8 hours a day at a strip club in Germany.

Both points are well taken, but one of those cool bands that you just happen to catch at a bar you walk into isn't going to be playing an NYE event. Especially not a band called Hi-Five.

Now that I said that, though, I finally figured out the last time I had no idea at all who a band was and they totally blew me away. I remember very specifically that I said, "What the hell kind of name is The White Stripes?" as I walked into the Ritz. So perhaps I'm wrong about the name thing, too.

White Stripes and Pavement was a hell of a show, which is to say the White Stripes were fucking mindblowing because Pavement obviously didn't give a shit.
