i was young but i remember watching that game on tv. still remember vividly george teague running down lamar thomas right before he scores a TD and takes the ball out of his hands then turns around and heads off in the other direction.

the first segment really did a good job of showing how miami changed college football forever and integrated hip hop into sports all while uniting a city that was like current day baghdad.

really? bama had somewhere around 6 or 7 titles in the 60s and 70s. the polls F'd bama out of some other possible titles in the past but i cant remember if any of those were from that era.

Quote :
"Alabama's 1979 squad concluded the most dominating decade in college football history on the first day of 1980 when the '79 squad clinched a perfect 12-0 season and Bama's 11th Natonal Championship with a 24-9 win over Arkansas. Alabama's national title team so dominated its opponents that the Tide allowed but 67 points for the entire season and shut out five opponents. Guard Jim Bunch, center Dwight Stevenson and cornerback Don McNeal earned All-American honors. For the decade of the 1970s, the Alabama Crimson Tide compiled an incredible 103-16-1 record. Considering 5 of those losses came in 1970 makes the final nine year stretch of 97-11-0 even more imposing. "

yeah. the 77 season notre dame screwed bama out of a national title that year...i had a feeling there was one they got jobbed in that decade. they also finished undefeated in 66 and somehow ended up 3rd

and if you think they didnt play a tough schedule or anything...here are some teams they played in 78: Bama faced Nebraska, Missouri, Southern Cal, Washington, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn and Penn State

First...that 10 year run they had was ridiculous. 4 titles in 10 years says something. They had maybe one average year in that span. Nobody is saying they have one of the top programs ever...they are just saying that one span was one of the best runs for a program ever...and it was.

And plenty of teams have had dominant eras...but Miami changed the game. And they didn't change it by the way the actually game was played...i.e., they didn't usher in the option offense, or the forward pass, or some new defensive scheme...they changed the style of the game. The celebrations, the swagger, etc. You see it everywhere now. There isn't a team that does it as much as Miami did as a team back then (FSU tried to afterwards, and to a certain extent they did...fuck, Amato tried to bring it to State when he was here), but individually, it's everywhere.

I don't see how you can argue with anything in that "documentary."

Meh...I don't dislike them. If I was a little older during that era, then I guess there's a possibility I would have disliked them like everyone else did. But I loved FSU growing up when they were dominant because of their swagger and the way they played...but I despise teams like Florida now.

24 arrests, now at least 25 counting the latest DUI, in the last 4 years:

FAIL.

Florida has had more arrests in the last 4 years (2005-2009) then Miami did 1987-1991.

Florida has a guy that SHOT a AK-47 indoors and STILL played.

Florida also has a dude who bought gas on a murdered girl's credit card.

Sit down.

Considering Miami has 5 National Titles, a few more than anyone else in Florida.... and dominates the series with UF or FSU... the "all-time" total win-loss record doesnt mean shit when they've still won the series despite only being relevant since 1980.

You haters can hate all you want. Doesn't change the fact Miami had one of the best dynasties ever and IS THE NFL talent factory... far above Tennessee or Notre Dame or even Florida.

the thing i found most surprising was the dancing and all that at the end of a touchdown. i was relatively young then and didn't follow football like i do now, but that was amazing to see in college football.

And what other program is as unique?

Miami is not a huge diploma mill like Tennessee and have a huge alumni base and boosters.

Yet they STILL kicked the shit out of "traditional" programs.

Speaking of Tennessee... you do realize they have a "Fulmer Cup" for a reason, right?

^^ there are plenty that are unique.. you dont have to be "bad boys" to be interesting to anyone above the age of 12... Hell, currently GT is more "unique" than just about any fucking team in the BCS conferences. Northwestern teams of 95-96 were just as unique, Boise State, etc.

Quote :

when ranking all-time programs then yes, all time win-loss does mean shit... its not "who has been the best since 1980", by definition its ALL TIME

And by the way, I did have Miami as the best in state until Florida's run of the last few years, but now I would have them #1. They have more overall wins against much harder competition, only 2 games behind Miami in head to head (and they havent played much lately or Florida would be several games ahead probably). Miami was definitely the best team of the 80s, no doubt, but overall I would now give it to Florida although Florida State's consistency until the last few years is fucking amazing. Its really tight between all three but I dont think Miami (or FSU or Florida) is head and shoulders above the rest like that documentary tried to make it sound

Quote :

nice try on trying to twist my words, nowhere did I say "they shouldnt have made a documentary about them", I said you cant just automatically say "they are the MOST interesting team ever" which you cant.

Quote :

And there are plenty of Tennessee documentaries. There are plenty of documentaries about just about every program probably. Hell, I myself have seen 3 about Penn State alone.

You're contradicting yourself pretty hard.

Florida has won a lot lately, sure. FIVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ALL TIME VERSUS THREE. Not to mention the canes having the all time series 28-26. Not to mention that the Gators are a bunch of pussies that virtually DO NOT PLAY out of conference away games, and have virtually REFUSED to play Miami in the past 20 years, other than 2008.

If you want to play by your established rules, its not "who has been the best since 1990," in which case it would be debatable.

no, I didnt... I said they were close and that the last few years pushed Florida ahead... so, if we had this same argument in 1990 the decade of the 80s would have Miami ahead, but thats not just looking at the 80s.

and if you play in the SEC you deserve not to play hard schedules OOC

Yeah bullshit. Teams like UGA and SC at least have the balls to uphold their rivalry.

and you CLEARLY have a double standard. You say that Miami isn't the best program of all time in
general (which I am not arguing, for the record), and that Florida IS the best program all time in
the state of florida, using opposite logic against miami each time, are you serious? It's not like
Miami has completely fallen off the map since '90. They've won 2 more (undeniably should have
won 3 more). Get off the SEC's dick.

And you're right. There's nothing less interesting than a private school with a minuscule student
population beating the shit out of everyone and dominating headlines for better or worse for a
decade.
