what a freaking whiny baby.. omg someone told your player to miss a free throw when you were up 40 points.

Anyone headed over to the nose dome this year has to make a scene

we must protect this house!

when you're playing at home you can do stuff like that. I'd expect the same from sid, that is, if he had the pull these days.

Yeah Ol' Roy is a modern day MLK.

I think the press, who slobs all over Roy's knob, would have picked up on the racial slurs.

I love how some carolina douchebag makes a statement like..."my sister's cousin's brother's friend's mom's daugher's aunt heard him say the N WORD!!!1!!!" and then try to paint Roy as some equal rights crusading do gooder. Give me a fucking break.

ok, someone in the comments section said that they guy didnt have a ticket for that seat, and had been asked to move back to his seat earlier

how would RW know anything about that, i dunno, but im thinking it was a 'when roy says jump, cops say how high' moment

This is why NC State fans hate Carolina. When they do stupid shit like this, who wouldn't hate them. The game wasn't even close.

I don't understand why the cops had to manhandle that guy on the way out either. That was just ridiculous.

he should be fired immediately for that. THat was idiotic.

I would say Lowe should be fired immediately if he did it also, so there is no double standard.

I've heard far worse (ahem, mccants), even though it was at home.

obviously he shouldnt be fired

but a complete win of a situation would have been the cops just shaking their head 'no', while williams was trying to get them to get rid of the guy

As much as I hate Carolina, I think we need to be realistic. Something really really over the top had to have been said. Maybe calling him a nigger, maybe something in his personal life (making fun of a recently deceased family member, etc).... I mean who knows. This guy has been coaching for years and I am sure he has heard it all. Something really bad had to have been said to illicit that response.

i'm sure we'll find out more about the story, but as its being reported Roy Williams went over the top.

we can make all sorts of rationalizations about ol' Roy's actions but he still said this:

"i don't think anybody should yell negative things at our players"

Here's what the article said about the original comment:
Quote :
"During the second half, Deon Thompson was shooting free throws. The Smith Center was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That’s when it happened. One of the Blue Hose faithful yelled something to the effect of “You’re gonna miss it, Deon.” Although it didn’t cause Thompson to miss the free throw, it did catch the ire of head coach Roy Williams."

Wow, Roy Williams is a fucking douchebag, and there's NO reason for those cops to drag that guy out just because he yelled something. That's ridiculous.

If that article is correct, then yes, I am sure everyone agrees his reaction was way over the top.

However, I think there is much more to the story.

http://www.thetimesnews.com/articles/hill-30330-chapel-literally.html

Quote :
"CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina was applying the finishing touches to a 103-64 laugher at Presbyterian’s expense when all of a sudden Saturday night’s tone lurched into bizarre and serious territory.

Soon there were two police officers conferring courtside with North Carolina coach Roy Williams and then climbing the aisles behind the Tar Heels bench, removing a man from perhaps the 20th row of seats and escorting him out of the Smith Center.

The man, standing and wearing a golf shirt containing a “PC” logo indicating support of Presbyterian, had drawn the attention of that section of the building when he loudly heckled North Carolina’s Deon Thompson during a pair of free throws with 6:45 remaining.

“Hey Deon, miss it,” the man screamed.

That appeared to touch off the weird sequence — even with an unaffected Thompson sinking both foul shots.

Williams turned around and gestured in the heckler’s direction for a few moments. Eventually, a third police officer joined the original pair in extracting the apparent Presbyterian fan.

As Tar Heels fans joined in waving bye, the man reacted in an incredulous manner about the situation and seemed to repeatedly ask why he was being kicked out of the arena.

“When an idiot runs out on the field, they don’t show the idiot running out on the field because it just gives them more publicity,” Williams said afterward. “I don’t think anybody should yell anything negative at our players. Period.

“Let’s don’t make it a bigger thing than it is. But I just don’t think anybody should yell negative things toward our players (when) you come in on our tickets to watch our game.”

Williams said that would be the extent of his comments on the topic.

North Carolina spokesman Steve Kirschner later said law enforcement believed the man to be intoxicated and he had been asked to move because he was not in his ticketed seat.

Thompson’s reaction?

“That’s just typical Coach Williams,” the senior forward said. “Coach has a lot of pull around here, huh? To be able to get somebody kicked out of a game, that’s pretty impressive.”

As for the game, 11th-ranked North Carolina rolled despite playing with a depleted backcourt. Marcus Ginyard (foot pain) and Dexter Strickland (sore left hamstring) didn’t suit up due to injuries, so sophomore guard Justin Watts received the first starting assignment of his college career.

Ed Davis supplied 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. Thompson, dealing with a bit of knee tendonitis, scored 19 points in 18 minutes.

Larry Drew II added 12 points and 9 assists while freshman John Henson chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

The Tar Heels (8-2), playing their only game in a 13-day stretch because of exams, built a lead that reached 38 points during a dominating first half.

“We wanted to start the game off right, with a lot of energy,” Watts said.

Chase Holmes poured in a career-high 29 points for the Blue Hose (2-8), a blowout victim by 43 at Clemson and 46 at Illinois this season."

I'm still trying to figure out what legal basis they had for pulling the guy out of the stadium.

...and "because Roy Williams said so" doesn't count.

^From the article I posted, the cops are saying it was because the guy was suspected of being drunk, and not in his own seat. However, what Roy Williams should have had to do with that is unclear. And how he knew the guy wasn't in his seat from the court...

A small example of why Roy is a grade-A douche:
Quote :
"Roe mentioned in Roy Williams' book
MSU sophomore forward Delvon Roe, who originally had committed to North Carolina, scored eight points and had a game-high rebounds before fouling out with just over 7 minutes to play. After de-committing and switching to MSU, Roe sustained a season-ending knee injury in the first game of his senior year in high school.

"I thought Delvon was great," Izzo said. "He looked assertive, he looked athletic. In a lot of ways, I think now we can really go to him. He's just starting to look like the player I recruited."

Tar Heels coach Roy Williams wrote in his new book, "Hard Work, A Life On and Off the Court," that Roe lied to him about coming to North Carolina.

In the postgame news conference, Williams said he still loved Roe and wasn't really accusing him of lying, "But he said he was coming, let's be honest."

"It was very emotional," Roe said. "I have a lot of memories coming here as a kid while being recruited. Sorry. I'm disappointed (about Williams depiction), but no comment."
"

they pay for their tickets, and you are allowed to make noise. If the fan had thrown something on the court, that would be a different thing, but yelling during a free throw- REALLY?
