P. Riv is taking a beating. I didn't want to stick this in the All Things Rivers Thread.

Leinart was a product of his environment. If he suited up for State instead of SC, he wouldn't be anywhere near this list.

should be between Vince and Phil

there's a reason why Eli was the #1 pick and its not just because of his name. I'd tie him with Rivers because both set records without any real help.

the reason he was the #1 pick was so the chargers could get Rivers and more (ended up being Rivers, Merriman and Kaeding) in the inevitable trade

The reason he was the #1 pick was because he was good enough in college to be traded for Rivers and others.

Elol Manning:

Career Pass Yards: 10,119
Career TD Passes: 81
Career YPA: couldn't find it, but he doesn't even own that record at Ole Miss so it can't be that good

Rivers:

Career Pass Yards: 13,484
Career Pass TD: 95
Career YPA: 9.55 (best in college football history)

And regardless of parity in stats (which doesn't exist) or accomplishments, Rivers is just a better quarterback. If you had to pick between the tw, you pick Rivers every time. He knows the game better, makes better reads, makes better throws, responds to adversity better, and makes his teammates better.

Dan LeFevour has to be mentioned --

- On December 1, 2007 LeFevour became the second player in Division I FBS history to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season (Vince Young was the first).

- On September 12, 2009 at Michigan State, LeFevour passed Byron Leftwich to take over as the MAC all-time leader in total offense in a career.

- He currently holds Mid American Conference records for career completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns, and total offensive yards.

- LeFevour is the only player in NCAA history with over 12,000 passing yards and 2,500 rushing yards and currently sits 3rd all time in total offensive yards.

- He also holds the FBS record for total touchdowns with 148

Other than Florida State were there any real threats in the ACC while Rivers was playing?

You have to look at the conference and we all know there never was nor will there ever be any comparison between the competitive level of the SEC and the ACC.

in case it's not, LeFevour's name must be part of the discussion. his numbers back it up

yes, please only include the worst teams we've played in the last couple years. nevermind that the best team he played is... who? i hope you're trolling, people in shitty conferences can do better because they play shittier teams on the reg.. if people had the same numbers in the SEC and ACC, i'd probably take the SEC guy, but no chance i would ever take a MAC QB over almost any other conference QB. It's like saying Armanti Edwards should be considered.

^^ With that logic you have to put Timmy Chang on the list. He had great numbers. Josh Johnson had a 177 passer rating for San Diego (04-07). Best all time. Should he be on the list because he has 'numbers'? Hell, Jason White won the Heisman and he isn't on the list.

If it's just about results, Matt Leinart, no question. He's the only one with 2 championships as a starter (well one of them was only a half championship)

If it's about performance, then it's Rivers, IMO.

I love Rivers and hes definitely top 5 QB in the NFL but the bottom line is that he never went better than 5-3 in the acc. Consequently, he was nothing but an above average college QB.

Rivers doesn't have the best stats out of any of these guys, and he never won anything that mattered.

There is no way he deserves to win this over most guys on the list.

I love the guy, but in college he was really good, just not as good as some of us want to think.

Rivers wasnt the reason they never did better than 5-3. I think you judge this by actually watching the QB, not just stats, not just team victories, but actually watching what he did on the field... never did see anyone better than him in college.

it's the same reason Rivers didn't win the Heisman, or wasn't even invited to NYC for that matter. If we would have been undefeated or even close to a championship team, Rivers would have won it hands down.

All these awards are jokes, just like the Hypesman has become.

I HATE this argument... people switch it up to suit their point.

If they like the QB then its "he put up all those numbers even with the great running back getting so many touches!"

If they dont like the QB then its "he only put up those numbers because the great running back made the defense concentrate on them!"

Eli had NEITHER over Rivers. His team had one great year, his senior season. They finished 10-3 (just like Rivers IIRC in his Junior year). His other two seasons as a starter he was 7-6 and 7-5. Nothing too spectacular...

And the answer is Tebow...

why are people still equating team success with how successful a qb is/was? last i checked, there are still 21 other starters on the team

Since you don't seem to think level of competition is important, let's add D-II QBs to the list as well. In fact we can just start the list of best college QB with Grand Valley State's Cullen Finnerty who finished his career with a 51-4 record and combine both ideas that wins = qb success & that level of competition doesn't mean anything

Plus special teams, so at least 23 other starters. DO NOT underestimate how important they are to the game. Winning is a lot easier if you start at your 40 every time and they start inside their own 20 every time.

He never went better than 5-3 in the ACC because our defense WAS HORRIBLE. The year after he left, State had its best defense in recent memory. We were just straight up nasty that year on defense.........Ohhh what could have been.
