Wheres a good place to get this done or do one of you guys do it for decent price?

My normal shop wants an arm and a leg. Im willing to buy coolant for it too if the shop will cut me a deal on doing it.

Looking, whats all entailed in doing it other than draining/refilling? I thought nowadays they actually "flushed" the system.

If so, anyone know a good place to dump used coolant legally, pref for free?

^ The landfill on Durant or the one in Apex. They take it once a month, each on a different Saturday. You can look up the schedule on the City of Raleigh website.

As far as the flush goes, I usually drain the coolant into jugs and then run water from the water hose until it is coming out the drain hole clear. Maybe turn the engine over a few times to move some of the water in the block around too. Then let it drain fully, close the drain, and fill it back up with coolant mix. Some cars will need to be bled of air, usually through a bolt in the thermostat housing or somewhere similar.

[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 2:59 PM. Reason : don't waste the money on having it "flushed" by a bs shop for no reason]

My Chevy S-10. Its 10 yrs old and never been done as far as I know. Low mileage (80k) so no worries there just the age.

Now to see if I can get a bunch of jugs and borrow a hose...

Evidently you can drop it off at any time in apex.

Be very careful with that hose deal.

Your likely to loosen some settlement that could potentially cause a leak in some weak hose of could end up clogging the t stat.

Good luck.

Yeah that's what I do. Then when it all comes out clear I shut it off and let all the water drain out. Then fill it up 50/50 and continually refill it till it's topped off.

paid a little more than $100 to have this done on my Q at Colony Tire. For all the mess and hassle of a DIY coolant flush, it's just not worth it to me on a normal daily driver type of car.
