No, it really isn't. You have to wade through a lot of terrible "new" music first, but eventually you find something decent or even amazing. Otherwise, you're just going to find out about some awesome band that existed in the 2000s but broke up before you ever heard about them, and you'll have missed the opportunity to go to their shows or whatever.

I don't disagree, I just don't have the time or desire to wade through the crap to find something I like. It was easier when the people I hung out with had similar music tastes to me, and I'd get a good recommendation or hear a CD they were playing and like it, etc.

Most of the people i've hung out with since I got to college listen to music I hate, and TWW is full of elitist faggots, so I put no stock in any recs I'd get here either.
