Anyone else pre-order for $44.99(US) to get access to close beta? The game looks really promising and won more awards for upcoming games than almost any other:

The game is based on the UT3 engine and is kind of like Borderlands + WoW rolled into won:

The game has a single cost mode sort of like Guild Wars, but it also has a persistent world mode called Conquest which is like $15 a month (first month free).

The video doesn't work.

My first thought was: A more polished PlanetSide with no vehicles. Looks pretty cool, though I want to know how they're handling the death/respawn system because it looks like people are going to die A LOT.

The coolest thing is how deep this shooter is going to go, I mean in color schemes alone there are 5 Tiers and you can craft weapons. It is literally like WoW but mixed with Borderlands/Guild Wards.

Here is a quote from a dev on just the colors:

Also the dye list looks like this...

* Tier 1 - Flat colors, sort of desaturated, but allow for some customization. Limited numbers.
* Tier 2 - Some glossy colors and limited metallic colors. A little more vibrant, but nothing crazy. A couple of camo patterns too.
* Tier 3 - High glossy dyes, many metallic colors like bronze, gold, silver. A bigger list of camo patterns.
* Tier 4 - Vibrant two tone dyes and more exotic metal colors, think custom paint jobs from something like west coast customs.
* Tier 5 - Very rare "Epic" dyes that are very vibrant and bright. They have patterns that are interested and techy looking. Some have metal flake (google it if you like. )


Hopefully that will put you're mind at rest. There are something like 75 dyes in the game and i'm always coming up with ideas for more!

If you have ideas, or even better, a picture. Post it here and i'll try to build as list of things to add when i'm next re-visiting the dye list!"

Been following this game for months... I'll probably be buying and downloading this (the beta, anyway) once I get back to my place in Raleigh/once again have access to NCSU internet... so, this weekend.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to bother doing the monthly-fee version of the game once it's out, though... I think the Conquest features are totally worth the price, but I just won't have as much time to play it as I'd like.

Probably going to play Medic, and make a secondary Recon depending upon how they do/don't allow secondary characters.

I realize there isn't much more you can do with an MMO these days (since WoW = goldmine), but I'm really getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over with all of these new games

It's an MMO shooter... there's only been a handful of those in existence and most of them have been cheap poorly-polished shit. The only one that was particularly playable was Planetside, and even it wasn't great.


As for the look/interface... there's an objectively good way to do things, and there's an objectively worse way to do things, and in general, WoW has found the better way after having so many years of being able to tweak their design. Even those tweaks drew a lot of influence from other games or mods that had been made to improve WoW. Basically, the only thing you'd get from heavily-altering the interface is unnecessary complication and decreased efficiency. Everything looks a bit WoW-like now simply because, if one is to analyze and construct the most effective UI possible, it'll look something like WoW.

Dieing obviously depends on your skill, but when you die you just respawn in the drop ship. The game is kinda like TF2 on steroids.

Alright, i just got this game and this I'll make a coherent post without massive images and rampant homerism:

The PvP in this game is fun as hell. And the maps are great. Only $45, would definitely recommend.

is this actual fps style play.

Im sick of okay lets all stand around and get buffed for 30 minutes, then do 80 stage spell chain bal bla bla.

I want my skill to be shooting them in the face, not micro managing my mana and spellset.

It's technically third-person shooter gameplay, but yeah, pvp is basically pure combat. There are skills based on what class you're playing but there's really no need to ever wait, unless you need your power to recharge (power is used to fire ammo, use the jetpack, etc), but it goes from 0 to full in like 2 or 3 seconds at most. Every now and then you might want a power to come off of cooldown (most cooldowns I've seen are only 60 seconds at most), but even then it's better to be fighting against something while you wait. There are times when you might also want to wait for some teammates to join you (one person vs a room of 3+ doesn't usually end well), and obviously there's 10 seconds or so of waiting on respawn.

So, yeah, no waiting really. The game seems to ignore most of the typical timesink portions of MMORPGs.

The PvE isn't really worth doing at all right now (not that it's badly made... just boring and most people playing it aren't very good), but maybe that will change with the actual release. Almost all of the game's goodness comes from PvP combat.

I notice in this game my assault character just abuses ever other class in PvP. I mean sometimes a rogue will get lucky and back stab me while i am fighting something else, but mostly it's just rape. Also in PvE I dust everyone else in damage taken and done as well as score. Other than one medic to keep things running smoothly PvE should be 3 all assaults to get an easy win.

well that is the point of the Assault (tank), but a good Recon will fuck your world if you don't shield against him or jet pack out.

I love this game, I just got the inferno cannon that is like 10% better than the minigun. It just looks way cooler.

IS my skill at the game reliant on my skill with the mouse? or is it reliant on my skill at clicking ATACK with Chaos Laser on <SlectedTarget>


IE, you mgiht be level 45 and me level 2 but if you sit there and dont shoot be because you suck i can smash you in the head a bunch and you die.

This is why i liked LOK

It's a shooter. You shoot your gun manually like any other shooter (or swing your melee weapon if you have it out). It's a lot like Team Fortress 2... only it's third-person perspective, more customizable (each class has multiple primary and secondary weapons to choose from, plus you can choose what skills to equip, plus there's a talent tree system which gives you passive upgrades as you level), and with some MMO elements included outside of the 10v10 matchmaking games (appearance customization, a bit of crafting, and the 4-man PvE mode).
