http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-schools6-2010jan06,0,2797320.story?track=rss Assembly OKs bills to change California schools
Quote : | " Despite strong objections from teachers unions, the state Assembly on Tuesday night approved changes to California schools that would give parents more power to transfer their children from badly performing campuses and petition for fixes that could include removing principals.
The changes are intended to help California win a share of $4.3 billion in new federal funds that will be available through the Race to the Top program. The Obama administration is using the promise of that money to push states into adopting education reforms the president and his aides favor." |
I’m skeptical that parents are what it’s going to take to fix schools, because parents are often the problem, but measures that make it easier to fire bad teachers certainly will help Cali I think.1/6/2010 8:23:16 PM |

this would have helped me and my school if it was in NC when i was in high school..
shitty principal scaring off all the good teachers with stupid shit.
but in most cases poor school performance is somewhat because of lack of parent involvement so i am not sure if giving parents more power will have many dramatic improvements.

Quote : | "I’m skeptical that parents are what it’s going to take to fix schools" | I don't think there is a better summary of the complete error of the authoritarian view of education than this sentence.
Parents are the single most critical factor in the education of a child, bar none.1/7/2010 2:43:44 AM |
