Remember when people were saying we should have hired Whittenburg over Sidney? I am not saying that Sid is God or anything, but damn if Whittenburg could not cut it at Fordham, imagine how he would have fared in the ACC.

Who do you think is on the hot seat right now? I don't think any ACC coaches will be leaving after this year. The SEC has a bunch of new coaches so I don't think anyone leaves from there, unless it's Lebo at Auburn. I don't think anyone from the Pac 10 leaves, besides maybe Ernie Kent. Oregon is just terrible this year. The Big XII coaches are probably safe. In the Big Ten, the Iowa coach probably is on the hot seat but that's probably it.

I think the Big East is where we'll see the most turnover. The DePaul coach has already been fired, and the Rutgers, Seton Hall, and St. John's coaches could all be in trouble this season if they don't show any progress in building their teams.

Yeah, but it's still early on. Does anyone really believe that UVA will end the year atop the ACC let alone in the top 4?

Have you ever seen UNCA's gym the Justice Center? It's a high school gym that barely seats 1,200. Thankfully they are getting a new arena soon called the Kimmel Arena. It will seat 3,200 to 3,600. Nearly every other team in the Big South Conference plays in significantly larger arenas. Only Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern play in smaller gyms, and Charleston Southern at least has the option to play their bigger opponents at the North Charleston Coliseum.

I can understand why Biedenbach has been held on there for so long. It's not easy to win there and I bet the school doesn't care too much about athletics. Facilities matter even on the lower level, especially since the Big South teams all seem to go after the same players.

UNCG needs to fire their coach. You don't spend the money to use the Greensboro Coliseum and win 8 games a year. This is serious business.

I doubt Purnell, and would be shocked if any ACC coach is fired this year (Hewitt earned himself another year with the ACC run and NCAA bid). Next year I would say Gaudio will be similar to Lowe's boat meaning not about to be fired, but needing to show improvement. Gaudio will be hard pressed losing Smith, McFarland, and probably Aminu. Lowe replaces Horner and Degand with Harrow, Brown, Cothron, and possibly even CJL while everyone else has a year of experience. Advantage Sidney.

Is there any doubt ECU is fighting for table scraps to get a basketball coach? No way Holland lands a proven head coach, unless it is someone on the way back down (he talked that way for football, which is much better than the hoops job and they still ended up with a coach with 1 game of Head Coaching experience). Supposedly he is wanting to tie up most of compensation into incentive-based pay, which no coach with options will get suckered into with ECU's support and resources. Think Jerry Wainwright or someone of similar stature as about the best I see them doing.

If Purnell loses his 1st round NCAA tourney game...for the 3rd year in a row, I could see them getting restless...I know Clemson doesn't care as much about bball as football and baseball, but their fanbase has quickly grown to expect NCAA tourney bids, and as all of us know, it gets frustrating to make the tourney and never get very far...and at least State would often win their first round game...Purnell is 0-for-life in the NCAA tourney at ODU, Dayton and Clemson

He was a good coach sometimes, but he still missed the tournament 5 out of the last 7 seasons, I'm sure they'll throw a boatload of cash at a better coach...they want a competitive team to open up their $220 million new arena.

Capel isn't long for the sinking ship disaster that is OU basketball... that team will be horrible next year and likely on probation!

Gonzo was a first class prick. I don't know why they even held on to him for four years. I've never seen a guy talk more and accomplish less...

Crazy talk, but Bob Hurley "would listen" to that job. I never saw him leaving St. Anthony's...

Paul Hewitt? You realize GT owes hum $6.8 mil if they fire him right? No way they fire him with that kind of buyout.

Nah, it's just trying way too hard more than anything else.

Anyone that knows that St. John's is in Jamaica (and no, that wasn't random) yet still spells easy words wrong and uses hyperbole is as easy a tell of a stupid alias as there can be.

Interesting tweet from the college bball guy at the NY Times. Says Greenberg would be VERY interested in SJU but that he is less than liked by the bigs on the AAU circuit in NYC, which is the end all be all in that city.

Also said that SJU contacted Pitino's people and asked him if he would be interested in a paycut to "come home." Obvious answer was NO.

I realize St. John's has an impressive basketball history and everything, but they must be crazy thinking they can poach all these big name coaches...they'd be better off just hiring a successful mid major coach.
