Wow, looks like we may not have to wait for the new Esprit after all

Stats: 4.0 litre, DOHC V6 putting down 395hp - 395 lb/ft of torque. It weighs 2,755lbs officially, though unofficially it'll actually launch at 2,645lbs. Sequential 6-speed dogbox with paddle shifters, 18 inch wheels, 235 up front, 285 in the rear.

MSRP: $175,000. Though if this sells anything like the Exige Cup cars, it'll be more like $130,000.

Compare this to the Porsche GT3, it's 600 pounds lighter, with 40 less hp but 80 more ft/lbs of torque, for 20-60k more money.

Oh, did I mention that it's NA? Can't even imagine this car with boost.

It's closer to 500lbs lighter, and hp is what causes acceleration, not torque.

Also, please don't compare a "car" to THE GT3. :p

Yeah, it's pretty cool. I'd love to see one around...

^ah, my mistake on the weight, you're absolute right (3030 vs 2645). Hopefully we'll see this in the form of a Evora Sport car for the street, and a much lower pricetag. Unlike the Exige Cup cars, this thing is being sold for dealer to track FIA GT4 usage and a car specific Cup series.

And I think it'll give the GT3 a serious run for it's money on the track

It doesn't have 395 lb/ft of torque, rather, 295 lb/ft.

Also, the information I am seeing says GBP 120,000, which converts to $196,000.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Makes Debut at Autosport International (alongside the Evora Cup)

4 litre boxer engine
480 hp
2,646 lbs

Don't know how much it costs, but I am sure it will be a lot more than the Lotus. It replaces the previous GT3 Cups S, which cost 250,000 Euros ($360,000).

And it is a lot prettier

Maybe the 2 cars are meant for different types of races... I wouldn't know, as I don't follow all the different types of races based on production cars. If so, sorry about posting this.

Ack, you're right on the torque, I misread the units. And the cost isn't directly convertible like that. Each market has it's own prices because of vastly different regulations. The price of the Elise/Exige varies 5-7k depending on the market, so not surprising that an expensive track car would vary even more.

Also, these are completely different series. As I posted, this is a GT4 class, the GT3 R is, well, a GT3 class car. So not really comparable, although for 1/2 the price it's not a bad comparison

Until you've seen a jet black Evora IRL, I wouldn't make snap judgements on which car is prettier either. Damn thing is stunning sitting in front of you, it does not photograph well at all.

That's the Evora that should be offered for the street from the beginning, instead of the overpriced and underpowered car currently available.

It isn't currently available. In fact, Lotus is just now taking pre-orders on the first cars. It's a good sign that we'll see an Evora Sport/S/foo next year with this engine configuration though.

Also, I'm betting that Lotus will unveil the roadster version this fall sometime.

That doesn't mean it will sell for $196,000 here. Take the Evo IX for example...it sold for GBP ~40,000 and sold here for $30,000 - $40,000

Yes I know about the prices of cars in the UK (about 50% more than in the US). The reason I mentioned the Evora Cup's price in the UK is because I thought it won't be sold in the US, and so if someone wanted to buy it, they would have to specially import at the full UK price.

^^^My mistake, I thought I read on the Autoblog post about this car that regular Evoras had started hitting the street.
