Awful? Only the stuffiest music snob would describe it that way.

"Giving Up the Gun" is a decent, if overlong, pop song.
"Diplomat's Son" is appreciable for the mere fact that they threw everything at the wall in one song and most of it stuck.
The rest of the album is a total bore.
And while I might be accurately accused of being a snob, I'm certainly not stuffy for being bored by an album full of laid-back wannabe Afropop by four rich kids from Columbia. ] 1/15/2010 4:48:38 PM |

I have to look past their preppy image and roots to appreciate the music. The coastal/reggae melodies and Ezra Koenig's voice keep me hooked. 1/15/2010 5:00:05 PM |

I like them both. This album is not quite as catchy, but it has a similar sound. 1/15/2010 5:31:31 PM |

trying to direct people to http://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=584980 does not make them a "stuffiest music snob" even if the music blows cock. 1/15/2010 7:35:12 PM |

Definitely not as good as the first one but it grew on me after a couple listens. It doesn't grab you quite like the old one. 1/15/2010 7:36:53 PM |

Did they seem to be afflicted with Locust Valley Lockjaw? From the Official Preppy Handbook: "A common self-imposed affliction among those with inherited wealth, becoming more severe as the money is squandered away. This social disease is characterized by a chronic clenching of the molars while speaking, the use of the anterior nasal passage instead of the more usual mouth for resonance, the upward tilt of the chin (and consequently nose), and the languid look of bored superiority when one is compelled to engage in conversation with a social gnat. Numerous case studies indicate that the severity of L. V. Lockjaw is directly correlated to the length of one's driveway." 1/17/2010 1:25:03 AM |
