don't know much about raleigh rates

I was a member at Lake Winds Golf Course in Northern Durham growing up. It is one of the cheapest I have ever heard of. The course is never in "great" shape but the greens are usually decent and tee boxes ok. I don't know how far of a drive it would be for you but I think the individual membership is only $800 for the year and the family membership was $1000.

Like I said, it isn't the best course on the planet or anything but the greens aren't bad and for the money it was def. worth it for me.

you might want to look into lonnie poole. There is a one time initiation fee of 10k, but that is payable over 5 years. Currently dues are 1200 a year for unlimited golf and range balls. So for the first 5 years your total dues would be 3200, then for every year after that you would only pay the golf dues. Since 3200 falls within the average of a country club membership, I think the price is quite reasonable.

I'd advise against joining a club unless you're fairly certain you'll be in the area for the forseeable future

Plus a good club is going to be 20-30K or more to join plus several hundred a month in dues...I don't know what kind of money you have, but thats tough for most in their 20's to swing

If you move, you're pretty much fucked...you can't craigslist your membership, you have to eat it

The NC State Course sounds like a good option for someone in your situation

Thats not really completely correct...

It depends on the type of club you join. Many of the better clubs give you equity as part of your initiation, and when you leave the area, they allow you to sell your equity to a new member.

also, some courses are owned by corporate entities, with courses all over the world... you may be able to transfer membership, so I would check that option out too.

But yeah, if you live close to NCSU, then lonnie pool sounds like a great deal for a course of its quality.

Forest Oaks isn't in Raleigh. bout an hour away. but i know its cheap right now. my family just stopped our membership there.

check out:

river ridge- fun course and should be decent price wise
eagle ridge- not too bad of a course could be decent
preserve at jordan lake- nice course will be pricey
Wil-Mar- terrible course but will be cheap
RGA- if you want an easy course that is fairly cheap
Hedingham- never played it but have some friends that belong that like it and it seems reasonable
