Moon should've gotten a makeup nod.
Jarvis Cocker should've gotten a song nod.

THE BLIND SIDE?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Also, if Avatar wins I will set myself on fire in front of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in protest.

My personal vote is for "The Hurt Locker," but they're going to pick "Up."

Fuck the Academy.

I highly highly doubt Up wins best picture.

It's only nominated due to the expansion(although I guess you could say that for five of these )

Up was superb, but I'd hate for "Best Picture" to go to an animated film; it doesn't help to futher any acting careers.

I don't think "furthering acting careers" is the goal of the academy necessarily. The award should be for the best film of the year, if it happens to be animated, so be it.

That being said, Up is not the best pic of the year. (IMHO, it isn't even the best animated film of the year as that should go to Fantastic Mr. Fox.)

The Hurt Locker is by far the best out of the best picture category that I've seen (I haven't seen An education and Precious). If Avatar wins anything other than best visual effects I will be disappointed.

Why the shit do you think Up is going to win?

It has easily the best 20 minute sequence of any Pixar film, but the last 30 minutes or so are pretty weak and silly comparatively. No field expansion=no Up nomination.

^^Nine's actually gotten pretty bad reviews. I'm still gonna see it though. I like musicals for the most part

While I'm glad to see Up nominated for best picture, it doesn't make up for Wall-E not being on there last year...which is what I feel they're going for. To me it's like LOTR RotK winning best picture, "Oh! It's the last one! Better give it an award" *shrug* And now having seen Fantastic Mr Fox, that to me is best animated film and not Up; although I do love Up.

I have Hurt Locker right now from Netflix so I'm gonna reserve til I watch that. I never got to see Precious :/

The only two that I'm all "oooooh please win or I may riot" over is Best Art Direction for Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and Best Supporting Actor to Christoph Waltz

I'm not sure what I'm missing.

This is the second animated film ever nominated for best picture, and that is likely only due to the expansion to ten.

If your link is saying that the best movie doesn't always win because Crash is a shit movie then fine, I agree.

Makeup?

Moon should have gotten a nod for something, but I'm not sure makeup works for it.

Unless you're just thinking of makeup as the de facto "Sci Fi Category" (like how Costuming seems to be the de facto "historical drama category").

Dude, Sam Rockwell looked like a CORPSE toward the end of that movie, they pulled it off really well and it was kind of subtle but incredibly effective.

anyway, this year's Oscar show was GREAT.

Roommates and I were cheering for the last two awards. Hurt Locker was a great movie, no two ways about it.

I could have gone for Up In The Air as well, but very little otherwise.

I don't see what the big deal about Hurt Locker was. It was decent, but nothing exceptional IMO. It and Avatar didn't really belong in the discussion as far as best picture.

I enjoyed The Hurt Locker so I can't complain with the win, but I definitely have to admit that back when I watched it I didn't have any inkling it would be a contender to win best picture for the year

I enjoyed Hurt Locker. Def deserved best screenplay.

Best Director? I'm on-board with that.

..but Best Picture? Sorry, but thats got to be some kind of appeasement for feminism, screenwriting purists, and small-filmmaking. The Hurt Locker is a forgettable film that wouldn't have had any appreciable impact on the industry, beyond its notation for first female Best Picture/Director. Pretty sure it would have faded completely from public memory within years.

I don't consider writing and direction to be so far above other qualities like acting, art depth, effects and cinematography that a picture should win on the merits of those two alone.
