I don't count the dog or robot as part of the party, they are just pets. I haven't tried the NCR walkie talkie for help yet. Although, I just found out that one of the quests leads to Cass getting assassinated, guess she's really just a temp, abit its a side quest.

She's not temporary, and if it's the quest for the Van Graffs at the Silver Rush it doesn't have to end with her death.

ohz, I see now. Interesting. Still wish I could have her and boone in my party at the same time. What happens when I say "lets part ways" when I talk to her, does that men she's gone forever, or goes to some place and be stationed to where I could let her rejoin my party?

A message will pop up saying where they go when they leave you, and yeah you can get them back anytime you want. Boone goes to Vegas when you fire him, but everyone else so far has gone back to their original spot.

I love how they kept the game very similar to Fallout 3, but adding little improvements here and there. I'm once again addicted.

My only request is the same one from Fallout 3, a drivable motorcycle. They tease me with all the parts laying around. (I'm a jealous fuck seeing the modded PC gamers riding theirs with the mini gun attachment.)

Anyone have a problem trying to get Rex to follow you? I was going to do the King's 2nd mission to heal Rex, but he kept growling at E-DE...so I told E-DE to wait here instead of following me, but I still can't get Rex to join...to I have to do something more than just tell a companion to 'Wait Here' in order to get them to stop following me?

Also I've been getting bank now that I'm on the Strip...my Luck is like an 8 and Blackjack is just too easy...but I learned from whoever in this thread said they got cut off, so I haven't taken more than about $5k-$6k from any one casino yet...just get $500 worth of chips, cash out over $5000, then go buy some weapons

You can't have Rex and ED-E at the same time, so yeah you have to "fire" ED-E.

I got kicked out of Gomorrah after winning 8500, my friend said he was able to get closer to 10k before they asked him to leave, but I think he won a jackpot on the slots.

And yes, ED-E and Rex are considered pets, you can only have one. You have to part ways with one to get the other.

The motorcycle seems like a cool mod, but looks overpowering.

Do the casinos count your total winnings, or do they just count what you have? So say a casino cuts you off at 10k winnings, can you win 8k, cash out, go buy some stuff, then come back and win 8k more? Or will they only let you get the 8k plus 2k more then cut you off?

My luck is at 7, and I win seemingly 75% of my hands in blackjack. I played a few spins in slot machines and played roulette. Even when betting on black or red, I lost like 15 games in a row.

I got them to comp me the Presidential Suite at either Gomorrah or Tops (can't recall) but they didn't cut me off from the table...the floor manager would just run over to me after every couple thousand I'd win...at first he'd give me like radroach meat and a brahmin skin outfit...then he started coming with better stuff

here's clarification about The Tops

Quote :
"Should the player acquire enough chips, the floor manager will offer them a gift of wine and steak. As the player continues to earn chips, the floor manager will offer more, increasingly valuable gifts, culminating in a suite.
2,500+ chips = Vodka
5,000+ chips = Brahmin Steak and Wine
7,500+ chips = Suite Key
After the player reaches 10,000 chips earned, they are banned from playing games in The Tops. They can still use it's other functions, such as the restaurant, the theater and cashing out their chips, but they cannot win any more money in the Tops. This ban is permanent."

My 3 best weapons:
All American (unique Marksman Carbine)
Anti-Material Rifle (sniper, better than Gauss b/c of ammo types, range, reload)
Ballistic Fist (for obvious reasons)

I wonder if there's a mod that someone will make to stripe the limit feature. I just wanna keep plying and win millions of caps. lol

I got snappy medium armor from Gomorrah that's worth 3200ish, but can't seem to find a vendor with enough cash to trade for it. I seem to have tapped most of the vendors that I've encountered already.

Are there any sewers/subway tunnels with ghouls in this in this game? I know Washginton, DC actually has a subway system, and Vegas does not, but after playing FO3, I just keep expecting to have to travel underground past a bunch of glowing ones to get to certain places on the map. Also I don't know if when(if) you go to California, you go to LA where they have subways

just wondering

^ There is a railway tunnel in the NE corner of the map that leads to Nellis AFB. It has mines and glowing ghouls in it.

It has a Very Hard lock on the door though; I think it's just supposed to be an easier way into Nellis without getting howitzer'd to hell if you have the required lockpicking skill.

- Blake from Crimson Caravan
- Gun Runners
- NCR vendor in the back of the concourse

I've sold literally like 50k worth of stuff. Loaded up on implants already. At this point I just stash away extra supplies in my safe houses (yes - plural).

I expect to see my Madden people hitting me up a lot as I put a higher and higher percentage of my gaming hours into FO:NV

what kind of builds are you guys using (special, trait, first few perks)? is anyone trying to min/max by going high INT and the intense training perk along with implants (haven't found any of these yet)?

I kind of distributed my traits a little evenly, which now is seems more of a mistake since I didn't know what kind of gameplay style I wanted out of my character. I'd probably go back and do maybe 8 in INT starting off add the rest in str and luck. I should have gotten the intense training perk before I used up all the skill books, but honestly it only adds one more point in the traits, which really I'd spend the perk point into another SPECIAL point.

The implants are located at the New Vegas Medical Clinic outside of NV. They cost 4k to add one point in each SPECIAL, 8k and 12k for the special upgrades. Money is easy to get at the four casino's and like someone said before, it's easy to get stuff and sell, specially if you have a companion as a mule and the +50 weight perk.

i'm a little ocd about reading all the dialog options/back stories and will shoot anything that moves. so i've been working on my building speech, science, guns, and repair, although i should have went with lockpick instead of science. doesn't seem like there's as many computer terminals in this game.

are the limits for gambling winnings cumulative or just you can't win over a certain amount in a single hand? i haven't made it to vegas yet, but one of the notes on the load load screen said something to the effect of "players win and winners play, but casinos frown upon overly lucky people"

^Supposedly Obsidian wanted to avoid the whole "science is just an alternative version of lockpicking" problem that F3 had... I haven't played the game yet, so I'm not sure what else it is good for, but there's definitely less terminals sitting next to locked doors.

Getting good perks you have to have a good skill related. For example Math Whiz (I think is what its called) reduces AP for attacks by 10%, you need 80 i science to get it. They did a good job for making ALL skills have a place in this game, whether is through having an advantage in dialog or obtaining a good perk.

@Chop: Gambling in cumulative per casino. There's a 200 max starting bet for all games (there's only three types). Your Luck in SPECIAL plays a part in getting good cards. Having 7 in Lucky is crazy easy to win stuff.

I like how you can build and break down a lot of stuff in the game, like the same thing with Oblivion, but recipe format just seems more crude. And honestly, why break up and have two different work benches? And where's my damn Nuka-Cola fridge that I can order and have some Cold Nuka-Cola? the lucky 38 upgrades are severely lacking.

hacking terminals is so easy, as long as you have high enough science to access it in the first place...they still have the exploit where you can make 3 guesses, hit the back button to quit, and try to re-hack with all 4 attempts left...and they still have the <==.]-> type things that will replenish your searches or remove a dud

and if you guess RECORDING and you get 1 letter right, and after that you guess something like OFFSPRING, you are officially retarded for not having a good enough grasp on the English alphabet

INT only gives 1/2 skill point per level instead of 1, so Int isn't quite as powerful.

I really don't think intense training is worth using a perk on. Educated is pretty awesome, 2 skill points per level is equal to 4 extra intelligence points.

There's enough ways to play the game that lots of builds are playable. Especially considering how powerful some companions are (Boone and Veronica). I finished the game with a smooth talking cowboy with guns, speech, and repair. He used revolvers, shotguns, and lever action rifles almost exclusively. Now I'm playing a gay nerd with energy weapons, science, and medicine.

I still want to do games with a dumb tribal with unarmed, explosives, and survival; and a stealthy chick with guns, sneak, and lockpick.

Just an fyi if it hasn't been posted, but there is no free play after beating the game if you want to finish side missions. So, make sure you have a few saves.

**I read it warns you of this before the final mission, for what that is worth.**

wonder if they'll open up the end of the game with DLC and/or raise the level cap.

so much to do, leveling up to 30 hasn't really been a problem. i think i'm 20 right now and barely touched the main quest.

Obsidian said they didn't want to do an after the game DLC, since with your choices made during the game you could alter the world so significantly (in at least 4 different ways) that it would be impossible to represent in the game world.

Also Fallout 2 was balanced for 20 levels, with Broken Steel everyone could basically max out the character.

I don't think they will unless Bethesda basically force them to (or do it themselves).

I wish I'd picked up all the wrenches and duct tape I saw at the beginning of the game, repair kits are ridiculously useful.

I don't even want to discuss ED-E. Due to the invisible companion glitch, ED-E is "gone" but I still have his perk and he is technically still with me. Too bad I can't speak with Caesar now because you have to tell your companion to wait outside. Stupid fucking bug.

Fission batteries are one of the things I generally pick up, just based on weight:value ratio

cartons of cigarettes are awesome in that respect too

although of course pre-war money ftw, since its weightless (can't confirm if its weightless on hardcore difficulty)

also lol at being able to "buy" ammo casing at shops for 0 caps...so the weight is zero and they're free? sure i'll take em!

One thing I am tired of is how people are disappointed in The Strip. OK, I can understand how people would think that The strip needs more people and be more livelier and all of that, sorta live you would find in Las Vegas. But wait! The Strip is in the Wasteland, where you would be hard pressed to find decent looking women to make into hookers, people that could pass a credit check for 2000 caps, or anyone not armed to the teeth that could make it from further than 1 mile away without facing death many times before they reached the land of promise. In the Fallout world, the design of The Strip makes perfect sense to me.

havent beaten the game yet, but while i was hunting around Lucky 38 for a data terminal, I accidentally hacked some terminal and went into some back room where Mr. House's robots started to attack me...I then hacked another door and...yeah pretty crazy shit...I didn't save my game...don't want to be any more specific for spoiler alerts, but a very interesting scene

i got FO3 like 6 months or more after it came out, so google pretty much had everything

but for anyone who wants to try going into the area i talked about, its on the penthouse level of lucky 38...hack a terminal on the lower of the two levels, it will tell you you are unauthorized to enter, do you wish to enter anyway...if you say yes, the alarms start going off...just run into the next room and hack the terminal on your left by the elevator...you need 75 science but 55 + the skill magazine is what i did

@seedless: it's more about that there's this place in the middle of the desert that caters towards people spending money and having fun, yet there's no one there to do so. You hear that their big business is all the NCR troops on leave going there and spending their money, yet you don't see a single patron in these places, if you do, it's like 2 guys and maybe that one lesbo bitch. It's simple economics, how are you suppose to keep a business open with just 3 customers?

I mean it's also a lot of lack of encounters and enemies in the game too, it just seems lacking.

^^Yeah I know, but one would think (or in my case hoped) that they would have moved on or atleast update the engine to be a bit more modern? I mean it's still a dx9 game and bc2 runs better on ultra settings then NV does.

And wtf is with my damn slot luck? gosh, I rape with BlackJack, but loose 8k on slots without winning a damn thing. Was hoping to win a set of oranges with a bet of 200,
